Dems are schizoid on the data center issue. In states like New York, where electricity is unaffordable (due to insanely restrictive politically correct regulations), they oppose them. Meanwhile. in Michigan, the husband of the next Dem governor, Jocelyn Benson, is a vice president of the company behind Michigan’s first approved hyperscale data center project in Saline Township... and she's trying to thread the needle bu simultaneously supporting her hubbies project while restricting others.

And here is the reason (my justification, not theirs): these models are trained on "all human knowledge" which means that the intellectual property of all of the people whose data was used, is not being compensated for. People are getting incredibly rich on content they did not create but just provided a wrapper around.
Meanwhile, energy and water prices will go up for consumers where the data centers exist.
There is also room to mandate and regulate free tiers of access. These incredible tools need to be more democratized, IMO.
