I was watching the TV broadcast of White Sox/Pirates out of Chicago and the TV booth said that on this date Sept 1st, 1971, the Pirates were the first Major League team to have an all minority starting nine in their line up consisting of Hispanic and black players.. Rennie Stennett, Gene Clines, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Manny Sanguillen, Dave Cash, Al Oliver, Jackie Hernandez, and Dock Ellis. Some great memories on that team and even greater players. The booth guys quoted Al Oliver as saying he didn't even realize it until the third inning.
