I tell my kids we need to respect authority, but when they make policy by throwing all logic and reason out the window and instead make it based on fear, hysteria and misinformation, we cannot respect them at that point.
As an aside to TyroneIrish, it is interesting to me that here near Savannah, people are living their lives for the most part as if a pandemic isn't even here. And we see that in our football stadiums every weekend, too.
Interestingly, the vast majority of white people I see in public are not wearing masks (about 2/3), while the majority of black people are (again about 2/3). Almost never see any Latino wear one.
I got vaccinated but I wish I'd caught COVID. Everyone I know personally who caught it survived like it was a flu... except my teenage stepdaughter's friends, who were all asymptomatic.
This was a disease of the extremely vulnerable and our OCD folks freaked out and tried to control everything and everybody.
Now they want to expand central government control of everything.

I mourn these losses.
I am more concerned with my grandchildren's future.
This egotistical clinging to the past by my boomer generation is embarrassing and so so selfish.
By the way... your rage is duly noted and is consistent with an OCD personality.
Americans who did succumb to COVID escapes me. His point is talk to one of those families.
Or since it didn’t impact you continue with your ignorance.
Take your blinders off and look back at this minor episode from the future in say 10 years.
Virtually all of those COVID victims would be dead from something.
So is it worth it to screw up society to forestall the inevitable for a couple years?
No... that would be insane.
Any idea what that does to society and the HC system?
Take off your own blinders.
You have been wrong about this from the start and keep doubling down.
And many of them are fatal to the vulnerable.
We do our best to protect and treat them.
You really need to check your sanity meter.

The original plan was to have the passport system in place before everyone started dropping dead, as a simple control mechanism - remember how early on they started the contact tracing? It's cute that they thought any sort of tech control system could hold several billion angry people at bay, but I fear they really did. And now they see they've gamed it wrong and the societal and practical cohesion necessary for their scheme just isn't there so they need to kill as many as possible ASAP, or their own necks will become endangered.

Comparing the death counts between the 1918 Flu and Covid-19 without adjusting for population growth is extremely misleading. In 1918 the population of the United States was roughly 103 million, while near the end of 2020 it stood at roughly 330 million. According to CDC statistics compiled by a study in JAMA Covid-19 killed 345,000 people in 2020 and now stands at around half a million as stated by the New York Times. Adjusted for the population growth of over 200 million people and holding the death rates constant, the 1918 Flu would have killed over 2 million people if it occured today, which is more than four times greater than Covid-19.
Furthermore, the two diseases are vastly different in terms of who is vulnerable. Covid-19’s severe outcomes almost exclusively affect the elderly and the immunocompromised, particularly those over the age of 65, which is also approaching the life expectancy of a human. Furthermore 94 percent of Covid deaths occurred with preexisting conditions. It poses virtually no risk to children, minimal risk to young adults, and only seems to kill more than 1 percent of victims with those over the age of 65.
that you're not much in demand for delivering eulogies.
You raise somewhat unique perspectives, so let's have a back-and-forth on a few of your points...
1) How do you envision separating the vulnerable members of our population so they are not only treated, but also protected?...or do you not care at all whether they get sick in the first place?
>To that latter point, and using data from the linked 'Statista' report...given that there have been nearly 190,000 deaths in the 85+ year old group, a sizable portion of the 330,000 victims in the 65-84 yr age group could have lived happily for another 5, 10, 20 or even 30 years (like my MIL and Uncle)...how about you play God again and tell us why you choose to do nothing to extend those lives.
>Age aside...how do you ensure that all of the immunocompromised from all age groups are protected for as long as the pandemic rages?...are there any actions you would support?...
2) While, indeed, ~77% of the deaths in the U.S. so far have been in the 65 yr old and up age groups, nearly one quarter of the deaths are below that age level...people with even more years to look forward to...in fact, that cohort represents nearly 3 times the annual number of deaths in the country from respiratory/flu diseases...does that not raise one of your eyebrows?...what is your personal threshold for action under such circumstances?
3) Pivoting off the previous question, what is your threshold for action on any pandemic?...wait until we have 2 million citizens already in body bags before you sound the alarm?...I mean if the population growth adjusted figure for the Spanish Flu is your true 'benchmark' for concern, then logically you're not about to call for any remedial efforts until then, right?
4) While I don't have data on 'Long Haul' morbidity issues for survivors of COVID-19, that phenomenon is real and I'm guessing there have been millions of people hospitalized with COVID-19 thus far...lives potentially shortened...quality of life reduced sharply...expensive treatments just to allow them to survive...then much more for on-going needs...how do you intend to mitigate that problem?
5) While not a 'summary' question, I'm at a loss as to what you would consider a true pandemic emergency that required people to suspend their normal activities and adopt onerous practices, like wearing a mask, or keeping social distances...what is your thinking here?...or should we just acknowledge that everyone is mortal and save all those HC dollars we've been spending?...a frivolous question for most people, but a serious one for you.
