Perhaps we would have no trade barriers but otherwise govern ourselves independently.
It would be like us and Canada.
Of course we would have to split the national debt proportionally, based on population.
Other details could be negotiated.

This struggle between centralism and federalism is the core of issue. History tells us so many divoces happened in the countries, especially the big diversified countries with a centralized system.

Actually, the Federal government doesn’t delegate power to the states. Under our Constitution, the states delegated certain enumerated powers to the Federal Government—One of those was to regulate commerce among the states. This commerce clause has taken on almost unlimited scope since the late 1930s
