Are they really as expensive to maintain as I read? One source said literally almost twice as expensive over 5 years than say an Acura or Lexus. Would you buy one again? Anyone with a late model M340i ? TIA.
Not a BMW owner, but a BMW derivative...MINI.
Was in a car accident in July. My beloved MINI Cooper John Cooper Works is STILL in the shop awaiting parts. It's bad all over, but this seems excessive.
And yes, before you scoff at a manly man such as I driving a MINI, you just can't believe what a thrill it is (was) to drive my 6-speed little firecracker. Most enjoyable car I've ever had.

I’m telling you, even if you’re not in the market, go drive either a Cooper S or a Cooper JCW (John Cooper Works) model, and make sure you pick a six speed. Oh, also make sure it’s the original two door model, not one of the newer four door or extended cab abominations.
It’s a freakin’ blast to drive.
dreaded the repairs...even with the Lexus and Acuras I've always sought out a reputable and trustworthy repair shop for my work, instead of the dealership (a VERY bad experience with one of them).
We're enjoying our current versions right now...as long as you can afford the expected bills, buy whatever makes you happy...you'll probably spend a fair amount of time in that "carriage" and there are lots of selections within an acceptable cost range.

to me is that they ONLY charge for what really needs to be done, and we discuss it fully beforehand...they have all the 'Manufacturer Repair Codes', so they can check them off when needed... I have come to totally trust them...(I've designed engine components, and changed out my own clutch (small car ;-)...so, I can speak "the language" with them)...they do outstanding work...don't mislead me as to when the work will be done and give me sound advice/warnings as to when future work will be required. I just sign and pay the invoice...never question them on anything...what peace of mind...plus we have fun talking cars...btw, it's a Vietnamese family operation.
Appreciate the insight
I have a 330 with 300K miles that runs like a champ and maintenance has been dead easy.
That said, my mechanic advised against getting another. Said maintenance on BMWs and Audi's has risen drastically over the past ~5 years.
His advise, Acura or Lexus?
Good luck
Or, god forbid, the dealer?
A good guy I can trust...
Costly for repairs. Had a Mercedes and would not buy another for the same reason
