Nature is taking a course to end the pandemic.

We humans are so so so impatient.

Meanwhile, therapeutics are becoming more and more effective.

Vaccines have their place... but are not the end all and be all and are becoming increasingly less critical for the species as a whole.

the football (just needling you ;-))...Omicron is by no means the last possible variant. As the attached article points out, so long as COVID-19 and its variants continue to circulate through the world's population, ANYTHING is possible, and our best defense is to get as many people vaccinated as possible, even if that means re-formulating a new mRNA version, which thankfully we can do in a matter of a few months.

that arena are saying...read the article and you'll gain knowledge so that you don't waste people's time with foolishness about Democrats purposely prolonging this pandemic...if any of your colleagues heard you talking like that, there's a good chance you'd be reported to the Michigan Medical Board...be careful.

Meanwhile, here's an important excerpt from the article I keep mentioning...

"Joy said a high vaccination rate would “definitely help”, adding: “A focus should be placed on increasing the vaccination rates in disadvantaged countries as this will help prevent more such variants arising in the future.”...

This emphasis on vaccination applies here in the USA as well.

It depends on if Omicron can dominate over Delta like Delta killed off Alpha

Keep fingers crossed.

But one thing is very clear now, Omicron spreads extremely fast, much much faster than Delta, making mask useless. I am mask advocate. I always believe mask works to certain degree assuming it's N-95, not people's favorite cloth mask, and you wear it correctly. But now I think mask likely won't work on this super contagious Omicron.

Saw Hong Kong Omicron case. It happened in their quarantine hotel used specifically for travellers. They are fully vaccinated, all their rooms are separated well, all are kept in not contact with each other. But infection still happened. This Omicron is super fast.

You know darn well that there are always exceptions (and there are here), but for the sake of your messaging, you don’t acknowledge them. You lose credibility when you do that which hurts the message.

Then again, prior infection does not seem to offer much protection. Early reports indicate that the vaccines do much better against Omicron than does prior infection.

So we have large vulnerable swaths of the country. Mostly here in the south.

"Experts emphasize that vaccines will provide some protection against the variant, especially against the worse outcomes of infection, like hospitalization and death. “There’s no reason to suppose that they won’t,” Michael Ryan, head of emergencies at the WHO said. That said, preliminary data appears to suggest omicron is able to cause reinfection at a higher rate compared to previous variants, which is of particular concern to countries where vaccination rates are low."

Many experts agreed that viruses become more transmissible and less pathogenic over time. After all, from an evolutionary perspective it makes no sense for a pathogen to harm the host on which it depends for its survival. According to this reasoning, virulence is little more than a temporary evolutionary imbalance.

Protection did the "expert" tell you the vaccine provided? Death? The linked article by curly exactly tells you no death caused by Omicron so far, making so called death argument useless. You are full of yourself without critical thinking a little bit.

I have no doubt if expert tells you to jump off the cliff, you will do it without hesitation.
