And Kaat was just good as often as he was very good.

The veterans committee needs to be disbanded.

If it makes the squeamish happy, create a separate category for gamblers, drunks, steroid users, and thieves.

Induct decent but not great just to have inductions every year

Thread Level: 3

R&R HOF needs to wise up and induct The Carter Family.

If I have to explain why to these idiots, then they don't belong on any induction committee.

Minnie Minoso was an historically important player and if he'd been in NY would have made it sooner.

Maybe we need a special category for the very good whose social importance merits celebration.

As a youth, I saw Minnie play for the White Sox on several occasions.

Not disagreeing. Genuinely don't know.

I used to have a baseball card that said he broke the record for oldest guy to get a hit, but beyond that and his stats, I know very little about him.

A major player in breaking certain barriers in his day.

Began his baseball career in the Negro leagues and was the first Black Cuban in the major leagues and was the first black player in White Sox history. He was also one of the first Latin Americans to play in an MLB All-Star Game.

Thread Level: 5

Those may make him an important player in some respects...but not a HOFer

Very Good For A Very Long Time should not be the standard. The HOF is for the exceptions - those guys who are clearly the best in the game.

Harold Baines comes to mind.

This committee was supposed to handle the situations where deserving guys fell off before their totals could improve enough because of crowding and timing of greater players.

This isn't it.
