Minnie Minoso was an historically important player and if he'd been in NY would have made it sooner.
Maybe we need a special category for the very good whose social importance merits celebration.

I used to have a baseball card that said he broke the record for oldest guy to get a hit, but beyond that and his stats, I know very little about him.
A major player in breaking certain barriers in his day.
Began his baseball career in the Negro leagues and was the first Black Cuban in the major leagues and was the first black player in White Sox history. He was also one of the first Latin Americans to play in an MLB All-Star Game.
Those may make him an important player in some respects...but not a HOFer
