A fund raising ploy, a discovery fishing expedition, a campaign ploy, and/or a sign of desperation that Mueller isn't finding anything? Probably all of the foregoing. It's also going to be a prime example of legal realism in action, as they've selected a forum in which their case will get a lot of traction from a friendly judge... only to get smacked down in the long run by a Trump appointed Supreme Court.

A company can be criminally prosecuted in connection with environmental crimes, yet sued civilly for damages as a result of the alleged wrongdoing.

The complaint is well done, and covers the bases. They finessed some standing issues well.

That’s not what it requests. It requests an injunction against the defendants from acessessing
the servers. Nowhere goes it mention the federal government being enjoined from doing so.
They should have gotten that court order in 2016. Would have solved everything.
