While suturing a cut on the hand of a Texas Rancher whose hand had been caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually, the topic got around to Obama and his bid for the presidency.
The old rancher said, Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked, 'What is a post turtle'?
The old rancher said, When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.
'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he sure as heck doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there and you just wonder what kind of an idiot put him there in the first place.'
Y'know, a town with money is a little like the mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it and danged if he knows how to use it.
Come to think of it, folksy wisdom is often kind of dumb.
Loud, obnoxious, dumb. But they are generally friendly. Think Ann Richards.
....... despite being published in Hardcover in 2006, where it soared to #3, and was a best seller for almost a year.
Obama's current paperback edition crushes anything authored by McCain, which has only enjoyed very modest sales at best.
Why is it, that America is drawn to Obama? Why is it, that he beat out the formidable Clinton political machine?
Call him a "post turtle" all you want. All I know is that his father wasn't an admiral in the US Navy, and he didn't marry into millions.

...as they get contrasted with the twisted garbage coming out of his mouth during the campaign. Like the man said -- a post turtle.
The popularity of his book means something? Danielle Steel sold a half-a-billion books. Does anything more need be said?
The Stephen King/Dan Brown ticket will be unstoppable.
Killshot questions how Obama has made it this far, suggesting that Obama has undeservingly been handed the nomination.
My point is that people are moved by what Obama writes and says ..... and no one handed him the script.
You're a lawyer, JSR. Would you call a top notch trial lawyer a "post turtle", ... who over 20 years ..... has built a reputation as a gifted courtroom lawyer ... is always well prepared, always civil, beyond reproach, .... and time and tie again, effectively persuades juries and judges to his side of the case?
Whether you're an Obama fan or not, ..... it's terribly insulting for anyone to suggest that his rise to the top of his party's ticket, is undeserved, especially considering his background, coupled with having a name that sounds much like Osama bin laden.
Unlike Killshot's view of his countrymen, Amercians are much smarter in recognizing leaders when they see one.
I think it is insulting to write off Obama's ascension within the party -- and in the country -- as "undeserved." I just don't see what his best-selling book has to do with it. Obama is a big deal right now. People read his book. That makes him Harry Potter. Not JFK.
I don't agree with the "post turtle" nonsense. I think I made that clear with my other post in this thread. But book sales? Not buying.

It would seem that America loves great fiction.
Elvis Presley had #1 hit after #1 hit and it had nothing to do with fans purchasing his songs. Colonel Tom Parker orchestrated the nefarious shenanigans with the record stores to give the perception that Elvis was the King of Rock-n-Roll, even though it was obvious to all he was no Rock-n-Roller.
I can't wait until Obama takes a header off his toilet.
