Government officials familiar with early drafts of the executive order also told NBC News it would allow families to be detained together but would not stop the "zero tolerance" policy of charging people with a misdemeanor for entering illegally.
Several administration officials say the executive order would allow families to be held in immigration detention together. That will run up against a longstanding federal court decree that prohibits the government from holding children in detention for long periods — generally around 20 days.

the party of Illegal Immigration. The sob stories and fake concern can only go so far, but by Novemebr, people will remember. Thank goodness in the meantime that Trump yet again did something that Obama did not have the guts to do and end this horrible, horrible Reno v Flores!!!!

Everything is at his discretion at that point.
Just rush a stand alone bill through Congress that el Jeffe can sign.
Of course, you are correct. This is Congress's problem to solve. I won't be making any wagers that they will solve it, though. We shall see.
Although, I haven't read the cases that forced separation of kids and adults. If they were Constitutional, and not interpretation of laws, we would need a Constitutional Amendment to correct the situation. Wouldn't that be interesting? The courts really would have hoisted themselves on their own petards in that case.
Actually, what we need is a Constitutional Amendment that allows the States to overrule the Supreme Court. Or, maybe COTUS (w/super majority) and POTUS signature, to overrule precedential effect of cases.
Also, why wasn’t this a problem before April if his hands are truly tied legally?

Refusing to enforce the immigration laws was dereliction of his oath.
Now we have someone who is cynically using the issue to his benefit on the other side.
You guys will never call that out.
There isn’t a solution because the hardliners don’t want one. They want an issue or voters or both.
Sad that no one will put country over their being right and firing up their base.
Remember the abortive start?...when the NYT guy mistakenly started the discussion by tweeting pictures of the Obama cages? They went quiet on the issue very quickly, not expressing their outrage. It came back a couple weeks later, though. Now, it certainly is a good distraction from the IG's report.
I just read this and found it interesting. I've been thinking we should abolish the FBI lately...or significantly downsize it.
Link: It’s time for the intrusive, politicized, and overly powerful FBI to be dumped.
of trans kids? Mark it down: Maddow will shed tears over this on the air, if she hasn't already.
Not the 2500 kids.
I can't but help notice that folks on the Left didn't decry placement of kids in cages under your favored tribe leader. And please stop with the rationalizations about those kids being here on their own. That doesn't explain placing them in cages. You're just using them for political gain.
And it's not like I don't point out similar disingenuousness on the Right.
As you know, this about "getting Trump", not helping kids. It is also about getting unrestricted immigration to bolster their voting numbers.
you don’t need to torture/torment the shit out of people in the process, particularly kids. You can be tough without being vindictive.
if he gets that, than those best and deserving will be more than welcome.
together and then sending them all back to their home countries, with MS-13 and political corruption and everything, correct? You would not support a system that sends back only the adults back and certainly not one that keeps them all here, right?
responsibility to fund and help correct the political instability we actively helped create. There are consequences to poorly crafted trade agreements and shitty foreign policy. What’s an externality to a multi-national corporation is an actual problem for the society.
When you destabilize both economies and governments in your back yard, it’s only logical to expect that people will flood the borders. What’s that old saying...”don’t shit on your own doorstep?”
I only ask because this is 2 in a row.
Oh, and if that's your definition of torture...
If you separated my 17 year old from me I’d feel torment. However if it was my 3 year old I'd consider it torture.
