By “we,” I mean wealthy nations. The United States should lead the way, like we did in killing Ebola in its tracks.
It is in our best economic, health and security interests to facilitate the world (except foes) getting vaccinated and sharing the new Pfizer pills.
To the extent we take care of Americans first, I liken it to air masks on an airplane. Put yours on first, then help others who are having problems fastening theirs.
We are going to be in good shape (herd immunity) by Valentines Day, especially with the Pfizer pill available. Gamechanger.

ever wonder why we keep sending them money?
If only they would get a job and stop looking for free handouts.
The Baby Jesus thinks you might not “get it.”
Orange’s favorite nation for immigrants?
But it makes him feel good knowing we are doing it. I’m sure the foreign workers he has tending his home are well taken care of.

Still would rather keep our money in our country to take care of our people, like homeless vets. But you would rather send it to shithole countries to make yourself feel good.

That's more than a little troubling.
It is like wasting food that could have been otherwise sent to countries with starving people.
With COVID too, right? Oh wait, it’s not a vaccine because it doesn’t stop you from getting the virus.

Have the shot? Has your COVID Pope Fauci given you your talking points about it yet?
Only a handful of vaccinated (yet infected) folks are being hospitalized.
Hospitalizations is the key metric. That is why today’s FDA approval of the Pfizer pill was such massive news. 3 pills per day for 5 days reduces hospitalization by 90%.
Be the new saving grace. First masks, then the shot, then the boosters, masks again and now the pill. You guys are the best.
as well as the Docs and Nurses who won't have to take care of them.

need to keep sounding the horn for aid to poor nations, the U.S. is not 'hoarding' vaccines...at least not in the pejorative sense...i.e. had this nation collectively had its head on straight and embraced the advent of the vaccines, we'd be "fully vaccinated"...our HC system not under threat of running out of resources (i.e. Docs and Nurses)..and could then more easily and more quickly make donations to those beleaguered countries...but, thanks to some "leaders", that didn't happen.
Now, with the advent of Omicron, 3 shots of vaccine are required for "Fully Vaccinated" status (J&J is no longer viable)...this hamstrings the U.S.'s ability to contribute...furthermore, poorer countries often don't have robust infrastructures to handle the mRNA vaccines (low-temp storage), so IMO, it's looking more like the emphasis will need to shift toward Pfizer's treatment pill ("PAXLOVID"), along with rapid testing kits for those places...again, just one person's opinion.
Now, what is it that you're trying to get agreement on?
I'm talking about mask mandates, shutting down athletic and other events, isolating Covid-positive people, etc. Not theoretically how long it SHOULD last based on ideal mitigations, but what's your sense of what actually will hapoen.
the virus has a say in it, I don't think anyone knows with a confidence level greater than 0.5...my hope and expectation is that we do achieve "Endemic Status" in 2022, whereby a combination of vaccinations and natural immunity+vaccination reduces case and hospitalization rates to "Seasonal Flu" levels...it will take awhile for most of the population to adjust, but I'm hoping by Summertime, we'll all be sitting shoulder to shoulder at ball games and enjoying a Guinness without masks in our favorite watering holes.
All of that is contingent on a) no new 'variant of interest', b) higher levels of vaccination, c) broad availability of PAXLOVID and rapid testing kits...and of course, d) months of very low COVID ICU use.
Probably a little optimistic...could stretch to the fall of 2022, but the real proof will be a year from now, with (d) continuing to hold firm.
I'm still concerned about the impact of having the majority of earth's population no where near as well off as we expect to be...for a much longer time. From what I heard in the UCSF Grand Rounds video, Omicron dame to be because (...admitted 'theory') a lone HIV sufferer was able to harbor the COVID virus for a long time and allowing multiple mutations...that kind of thing will still be going on "Out There"...
What's your take?
Enjoy your Christmas party.
I gave you my take (guess?)...you started the post..what do you think others should agree with?
