She was extremely talented, and unlike most of her contemporaries very well liked.

Dionne Warrick, Anita Baker, Donna Summer, Melba Moore, Janis Joplin, Barbara Streisand.
Some had more notoriety and more of an audience depending on decade and songbook. For my money - that's the group I'd say were all on a par.
There are so many great vocalists but for the late 60's and 70's Aretha and Streisand held that throne.
I was always a big Ella fan.

the list of singers are all great musicians as well as vocalists - as Aretha was, a great musician. Houston, not that good of a musician and not a singer to be heard live - she was often off key and great singers are never flat or sharp - she was however a good studio voice. Just an opinion.
People loved 'em all. I'd rather listen to Beth Hart. To each his own.

PS: they're all diva's, that's what separates them from the ordinary.
Here's a singer for you.
How many times have you seen Beth Hart?
Aretha was the diva of all divas.

I've personally seen Labelle and Dion scream like goats for extended periods of a song. Brutal.
Can't Let Go
I'd Rather Go Blind (Kennedy Center particularly)
I'm talking about ritual, habitual nonsense howling for show. That's not Beth Hart.
Rockers occasional howl. Soul singers and Pop stars can be much worse.
Hart is just fine - it wasn't a negative - just challenging your reasoning.
Hart does not sit in the pantheon of the singers I listed.
Did you see the tears welling up in Buddy Guy's eyes when Beth sang at the Kennedy Center?
You know something he doesn't?
Her Kennedy Center guitarist was Jeff Beck. Like Joe Bonamassa he's a big fan.
You know something they don't?
are screamers for them to be bad singers or at least not good singers. Seriously.
Beth Hart is terrific and she clicks with you, as she does with me but we're really talking about two different things.
example - this is one of my most favorite voices in pop or rock but is she Aretha, Ella or Streisand? No
now this
And here's a great artist who isn't a great vocalist ( good, expressive and good pitch, easily identifiable) but she's such a great musician it doesn't matter:
If Beck, Bonamassa, Buddy Guy and Robert Plant say Beth Hart is terrific, then I'm in good company.
In her genre, Modern Blues/Rock Fusion, she is acclaimed. None of the people you mentioned are in that genre.
If she doesn't make your list, to each his own.
Not sure what the arrangements are. Hopefully any singers performing there will not try to outdo each other. Hope it is tasteful.
