I said 10 fold, but the number actually appears to be an awfully lot larger than that.
4.5 million cases as of 2012 of educator/ student pedophilia cases estimated per Slate. No way to get the exact data, but studies listed her vary from 3.7% to 10% of Ll public school students which is far, far more that the “catholic” problem that is the only one being focused on right now.
Worth the read since this was written before the scandals made big public attention.
Also worth noting that public schools are covered by “sovereign immunity” and in the case of Pennsylvania for example, the case must be reported within 90 days -even now after all of the Church attention- or it is too late to file a suit. Contrast that with the Penn IG going back 70 years on the Catholic Church and moving to eliminate all stature of limitations on private institutions (read “Catholic”).

That’s maybe more #metoo than outright pedophilia. Oddly, as a fairly devout Catholic, I never had too much invested in the clergy hierarchy. I assumed that they are a healthy mix of corrupt perverts and pious politicians.
I am a Catholic in spite of the hierarchy, not because of it. You can say a Rosary without a bishop. You can receive the body of Christ without a Cardinal. They are irrelevant, mostly.
I suppose, based on what I am watching unfold, that I myself may need to remember your words and heed your example in the future.
Tort caps vary greatly by State. For instance, California and Washington have no meaningful protections while others have strong protections. Although these are under attack. Also, several aspects or all parts of these actions can be brought in federal court where no immunity applies. Abuse/molestation is a scourge on our society and country from schools, churches (all denominations), the military, entertainment etc etc
