ND Hoops Recruits had a tweet today about one of Indiana's own. Yeah, he has 60 kids with 60 different women and, yeah, the Sonics never won it all, but Kemp was a force beyond reckoning in his prime. For whatever reason, he gets left out of "best dunker" discussions even though only Vince Carter surpassed him in gametime dunks. I forgot how incredible some his dunks were:
Was a sophomore when Kemp was a senior. Had lots of stories.
Kemp’s high school nickname was “the schlonger”...loved to show off in the shower.
Warsaw's Rick Fox had to sit out the game - and the season - because the IHSAA ruled that his year in the Bahamas counted towards his four years in high school. That little Northern Lakes Conference produced three NBA players in the 1980s - Kemp, Fox, and Scott Skiles from Plymouth (my hometown).
And as tough a competitor as you'll see in the game.
I was at the Concord game where he put up 53 points (pre-Kemp team) and the opposing coach was furious that Jack Edison let him stay in the game so long. I think the final score was something like 103-50.
Edit: But I think Phil Wendel was the best player on that team. He was just too short at 5'9".
Kemp was the greatest dunker of all time.
I wonder if the 60th woman was thinking, "Finally!"
