I especially appreciate this: "But if Trump is at best an out-of-control juvenile, and plausibly the knowing pawn of America’s enemies, as Boot contends, then isn’t the U.S. safer withdrawing its troops than leaving them stationed in a powder keg, where a misstep by an unfit commander in chief could bring about a global disaster?"
Thank you, sir.

We all want them out of there, but only he knows its as simple as putting them on a plane and bringing them home.
Here is a recommendation for you - if you ever get a tumor, don't mess around with all the doctor's hemming and hawing. Just grab a butcher knife and cut that thing out. People make things too complicated.
disservice to our allies.

I worry about the Kurds, and how terribly he did it. But it’s the right move.
Let me help you finish your whole point.
As for Kurds, Saudi Arabia and UAE will help Kurds in Syria. They already sent Troops and Advisers there. Russian forces in Syria will restrain Hezbollah in Syria, Saudi also agreed to help ending Afghan conflict. They will host Afghan peace talk. We will soon not only bring fighting ISIS heroes back home, but also troops in Afghan back home. The point is U.S. is not world police. The people and countries in those troubled places have to take main responsibility to solve their problems with limited assistance/support from U.S.
It's not like Trump was ordering the use of nuclear weapons in Syria. That would warrant a very public resignation.
Trump was deciding that a mission was complete (at least for the time being...I happen to think this war will last 100 years, but we will need breaks). Mattis should have saluted and executed, even if he disagreed...and he should have executed without reservation, to make what he thought was a bad decision into the best possible decision given the circumstances. Trump's decision was well within the discretion of the commander in chief, and it was shameful for Mattis to pretend that his decision is not within normal bounds.

It’s how he did it without consultation or warning, especially to our Kurdish allies who shouldered much of the burden of fighting ISIS.
You just don’t announce it out of the blue without warning or consultation.

I’m not going to second guess Mattis. He’s served with honor. Also stood up to Obama about how rapidly we were leaving Iraq and he was absolutely correct.
No way Eli knows jack squat about Notre Dame.
But he knows Putin’s line well.
Jerusalem syndrome. Seek help, get treatment, paranoid thinker.
The way he did it though put our allies the Kurds, you know the guys who did the heavy lifting against ISIS at significant risk.
That’s the point idjit. We owed them to secure their protection first before unilaterally leaving,
