Are we being led by power crazed egomaniacs... on both sides?

He was only elected because Bush's tax increase damaged the economy so much that Ross Perot could mount a third party challenge that drained away many prior Bush voters.
Do they want the economy to tank?
?
Sure, That must be it.
That’s not abnormal. Are they rooting for a bad economy or downturn when out of power? I don’t think it goes that far.
Bush was just a few months short of doing so. Obama did a better job of it. Trump may or may not be good at it. The less socialist you are, the harder it is to push the building snowball over to the next yard...where it will inevitably end up crushing someone. But, both parties build the snowball, just at different rates and in different ways, and they both know the most important priority is to make sure it is the other party's yard when someone gets crushed by it. Party first; nation second.
Unfortunately for Trump, the economy has been so good for the first two years that people will forget by time of the election. The electorate is much more of a "what have you done for me lately" kinda people.
That was Obama! Unlike Trump, he had a mature and reasonable personality. If we have a recession in 2019, Trump may well decline to run rather than lose.
