A lot of the claims about what may be happening to women coming to the border seem dubious- there is really no reason to inject that into the debate.
Obviously what Trump proposed today does not go far enough, but it is a start.
I think McConnell will probably introduce a Senate bill incorporating what Trump announced next week and it will have no Democrat support.
I think Pelosi won’t even allow such a proposal to come to a vote. Of course she has no proposal of her own.
The partial shutdown will go on.
How ‘bout we kidnap your loved ones, and then negotiate which channels you can watch on TV?

He should open the Government.
As a “leader” and master “negotiator,” he can then strike a deal on immigration and border security.
Holding hostages is not leadership.

.... when this is a fundamental difference between parties - there is not blame for the inevitable.
But given this finding, I am thinking the blame is not as bad as you think it is.

From what I’ve read of his compromise, there is no offer by him just a movement in how he’s demanding funds.
He’s shutdown the government in a hissy fit and wants to save face for the R’s as ordered by McConnell - McConnell needs to show pelosi he’s the boss now. As for Trump, he doesn’t know how to negotiate (Putin’s puppet - pal of Kim J U) plus he really couldn’t give a shit. He just doesn’t want to go to jail.
Serious offers are not made on TV. They are made behind the scenes.
This is theater, with the goal of boosting his approval rating, not achieving a deal. He wants to seem reasonable and flexible and sincere.
Seems to have worked with some people. Maybe his approval rating will stop plummeting, and he’ll have more leverage.
That’s the goal.

The deal Mr. Trump laid out included $800 million in immediate humanitarian aid, $805 million for improved drug detection technology at legal ports of entry, hiring 2,750 new border agents and 75 new immigration judge teams to reduce court backlogs -- all of which Democrats support. The deal also includes new system to allow Central American minors to apply for asylum in their home countries.
He also said that he would extend protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for three years (plenty of time for Congress to do their freaking job) as well as an extension of the legal status of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders. Mr. Trump announced that he planned to hold weekly bipartisan meetings at the White House to discuss immigration reform.
This is politics, not negotiation.
You also know Pelosi refuses to stay in Washington to negotiate.
And he has undercut the GOP Senators trying to make a deal.
The public blames him. He’s backed into a corner.
He thinks he is the master dealmaker....we have seen no evidence for this so far.

You can’t negotiate with shitheads like her.
If it isn't a true offer, he would look bad. If he says, "Deal" then it was a true offer.
We will see if it works.

Pelosi could care less about the government workers being paid their crumbs. Hopefully, the country sees the Dems intransigence, and that this shutdown is primarily their doing.
Both Pelosi and Durbin shot down trump's conpromise plan BEFORE he gave it. Take note America.
Trump did.
He's fucked on this one.
When they return right? They are getting a paid vacation right now.
Meanwhile well over 1M contractors are getting screwed.

if she did she would face revolt by the Dems’most fanatical House members. As the Woman’s March demonstrated, there is no compromise with the hard left. I mean, Debbie Waserman Schultz, for god’s sake, finally had to bail on the crazies.
