What's worse is that these guys probably don't even any of the classics of Western civilization or, more importantly, the history of communism
They can go eat a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned. How many of those signing the letter are opening their homes to the homeless? No, far easier to for them to broadcast their grievance so they can sleep with a clean conscious.
Why are these professors calling Jenks out? Are they true jackasses, or is there something more?
Or do you think they asked in private first, and he said no, so they are trying to apply political power against him?
I wonder what the CEO of Google would do if 30 of his managers signed a public editorial to shame him, rather than contacting him directly and privately.
Academia is such a different bird.
Hopefully, a few. But many of the people signing this are likely expecting others to do things that they themselves should be doing first.
But a number of professors did not sign it. Was that from fear, disagreeance, or apathy?
Jenks may suggest he needs to be petitioned by local authorities first.
Or he may suggest insurance concerns prohibit such assistance.
I think this is worth watching.

They work for ND. Jenkins is the president.
The head of the faculty is the provost, or VP for academic affairs at some places. But curriculum and most rules are set by the faculty. Once tenured, even the president can't get rid of them without cause.
I'm not saying that is a great model...faculties are full of psychopaths. But that's how it works.

...since I have no idea what you are talking about.
You said Universities are run by the faculty.
That's a complete overstatement.
Who on the faculty authorized the Crossroads Project?

Common interpretation: The narrator took the road less traveled, and that made all the difference in his life. So, forge your own path, and you will be rewarded!
Suggested correct interpretation: Both paths are equal, but the narrator will later brag that he took the one less traveled as an act of individual exceptionalism. Makes the poem uniquely liberal: "You didn't build that!"
Good God, Man.

I personally think jenks should have been proactive, not needing a nudge from the faculty.
But maybe he feels it sets a dangerous precedent, and the next thing the homeless will expect is free food at the dining hall.
He can suggest that local government, churches, and businesses should share this burden more effectively.
Not sure he appreciates the faculty calling him out.
It will be interesting to see how he handles this.
On campus. He can donate to a local shelter. If he does anything, that is the best option.
ND spends a half a billion on Turf and Tron at the Crossroads, but could not care less if people freeze to death on the fringes of their elite campus.
Just give them some heat and a bologna sandwich in the Convo for 3 days. Let them sleep on the floor and then hose the place down.
It's not a good look.
I agree it is more complicated than it looks.
Especially if the lawyers, campus security and insurers get involved
