The acting (Big Daddy, Big Mama, Sister Woman) and the screenplay that created the dialogue between the family members and their disdain for each other was a fine piece of movie making. Plus the suggestion of a homosexual relationship between Brick and Skipper, very early for those issues in film.

blamed Maggie and not Skipper. It's insinuated that he was more upset about Brick being attracted to Maggie and blamed her for coming on to Skipper. Even Big Daddy and Maggie insinuated that there was something not right with the relationship between Brick and Skipper. Remember that's when Brick started to drink.
in her opening scene.
Tennessee Williams doesn't suggest
Tennessee has lots of such themes running throughout his work...
the guy thing - or we call it today - the bro or bormance/comradery in athletics. Brick lying about his love for skipper to his truth telling Maggie who puts on her show about how alcoholism has made Brick look even more handsome appealing to his possible vanity so that he may and they may continue to hide from his homosexuality there by continuing the marriage - He tells her to get a lover so she can be supported. It's the lies we tell in relationships sometimes that keep us together not matter how much they hurt - some call it, putting on airs. It's the American Dream that isn't.
Figured it out right near the end. Had to go back and re-watch. Much better movie once you know that.
Same thing happened with the Sun Also Rises - I figured out with like 20 pages to go that the guy was impotent. Well.
Agree on movie quality, though.
