I mentor a Jr in HS. Great young lady.......letters in 2 sports....she took SAT 3 weeks ago just got 1360...she is a 4.31 GPA and in top 3% of her class....she also ha taken 3 AP SAT exams and got a 5 in Physics and French a 4 ...some history one a 4....I am amazed at the French and Physics since she is a JR.
Is her profile, if it does not change, competitive for ND?

That means 25% are admitted that have lower scores. It would help if she was a legacy.

wouldn’t she take the shot? If she’s on the cusp, the essay could be real important.
Her HS guidance counselor might not even be up to date. I’d check with the admissions office at ND and see what the characteristics of the most recent class were. I’m sure they have that info. That’s the best measure of general competitiveness.
Also, if you could cut a half-million dollar check to the lacrosse coach, that would probably help.
It will show who was admitted from that high school, and who was not, graphed by test scores (SAT/ACT) vs. GPA. I think that is a pretty good indicator.
ND wants the whole package...scores, grades, extracurriculars, volunteer work...a story helps and can overcome mild deficiencies.
My advice to her: Take the application seriously. Don't just crank out a few essays and mail it in.
