White-knuckle stuff, even if you know a lot about what happened.
And trust me on this one: you don't want to get acute radiation poisoning.
At least this show gives young people under 50 a glimpse.
An accurate portrayal of Germany under a populist, nationalist, authoritarian leader - why anyone would want to be like them is beyond understanding.

Implying a connection between Trump and Hitler is over the line, but implying a connection between Sanders/AOC/Dems and Soviet Russia is not?
My post had a purpose of pointing out the irony of a staunch and unwavering Trump defender suggesting others learn from history. But feel free to disregard under the cloak of Godwin's law.
;-)
Noted, thanks.
The first episode was brilliant in it capturing the claustrophobia of a Soviet plant. Jared Harris absolutely nails it. I am sad it is only going to be five episodes.
It is another Western series. Sometimes it is tough to replicate what it was like with a bunch of Brits. The Irish coal miner was tough to listen to. And from a historian's point of view I did nit-pick at some of the portrayals. Boris Shcherbina in real life had the authority to tell the KGB to fuck off - including its chief. He was accountable to no one except Ryzhkov and Gorbachev himself.
Should be mandatory viewing in our schools.

The human sacrifice to cover up and diminish the disaster was very Soviet.

I had no idea how hairy it was.
Had always though a little worse than Three Mile Island, .... but wow!
Went into it with low expectations. And while the scenery is often drab (it IS Soviet era Russia, afterall) and the subject matter is depressing, it is expertly done with riveting storylines. Some outstanding acting, too.
