The author postulates that the NBA has wasted a lot of money on the WNBA since the late 1990s and that a particularly costly mistake was letting lesbians take over the culture of the WNBA. This past World Cup our anti-Trump media seems intent on stumbling down this same dubious path. Can this really be the only effective way to market women's team sports?

Should not men be able to play on women’s teams and vice versa?
If professional women soccer players want pay equal to professional men soccer players, could they not simply join men’s professional teams? Alternatively, all the women’s teams involved in World Cup soccer should generate equal revenue to all the men’s teams involved in World Cup soccer- let the market decide.
When female engineers do same work as male engineers do, female chefs cook same cuisine as male chefs do, female nurses gave same care as male nurses do... they all face same challenges and bring same solutions/results as men do, they should get same pay as men do.
When viewed appropriately—based on how much money they generate—women actually make more than men.
As Dwight Jaynes pointed out four years ago after the U.S. women beat Japan to capture the World Cup in Vancouver, there is a big difference in the revenue available to pay the teams. The Women's World Cup brought in almost $73 million, of which the players got 13%. The 2010 men's World Cup in South Africa made almost $4 billion, of which 9% went to the players.
The men still pull the World Cup money wagon. The men's World Cup in Russia generated over $6 billion in revenue, with the participating teams sharing $400 million, less than 7% of revenue. Meanwhile, the Women's World Cup is expected to earn $131 million for the full four-year cycle 2019-22 and dole out $30 million to the participating teams.

In the United States, the women generate more money. But they are paid something like 38% of what the men get.

In terms of revenue generation. $4 billion vs $75 million. Also, I believe the women are paid a higher percentage of the overall revenue compared to the men. Nothing to see here.
And Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Olympic sports also do well -- swimming, track 'n field, gymnastics, skating, skiiing, tennis, golf.
But, I have never been able to watch females play basketball.
I watched lots of our women’s games this year, even more than our men’s basketball team. I have never spent more that s brief second watching a professional woman’s team in any sport,
by men. Tennis was, is and will remain #1 the most popular female sport. Mark my words.

Are you saying that the "our anti-Trump media" is making a costly mistake of letting lesbians take over the culture of women's soccer?
How are they doing that?
This is all bullshit. Soccer - like all sports - is a meritocracy. No one "allowed lesbians to take over." The only people who lament the lower percentage of heteros - or the only ones who care - are conservative douches.
The level of women's sports is artificially kept at lower levels because talented hetero women are intimidated out of the sport. At least that's what people are saying.

Don't you hate it when your stock lines, which you've borrowed from fellow lunkheads, fall flat? Ouch...
Interestingly, your Russia posts demonstrated the same sort of ideological blindness and stupidity that one might often hear from Dr. Gorka.
"Sport is, ultimately, a very lucrative and very popular form of entertainment. But at its best, it can also be something more than that. Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird represent the rarest form of role models. Together, they give face to what a strong, powerful, sexy lesbian couple looks like."
Yes, ideally, our role models should be sexy and, better yet, sexy lesbians. These are sexy lesbians, aren't they? They have to be: they're role models.

But that's neither here nor there.
I guess you are clarifying that Curly meant that the "anti-Trump" media is going to cause women's soccer to follow the path of the NBA, not that the "anti-Trump" media is making the same mistake as the NBA. The NBA supposedly made a mistake because they invested heavily in the WNBA (and let the lesbian culture takeover), while the "anti-Trump" media does not have any direct investment in women's soccer. The media cannot make the same mistake because it has no stake in whether the lesbian culture hurts the popularity of women's soccer.
Gays have higher average income than the average of the total population, so advertisers increasingly like targeting them.
Because the dominant media is overwhelmingly leftist, they craft stories that exalt gay athletes/celebs/politicians. In fact, I can't recall seeing a single article from the MSM that has been critical of the LGBT movement. If I've missed one, please share it. Most of it reads like that atrocious Sun-Times puffpiece to which I linked.
I cannot believe any general news media outlet is going to make more or less money based on whether women's soccer has long-term viability. Ideological investment? Yeah. How does a newspaper get return on those investments?
campaigns LGBTQ-inclusive." It's a booming market. Are you contending that news networks do not determine much of their content based upon advertising/marketing trends and financial realities? It makes perfect sense to carve out a lot of puffpieces about all things LGBT at this point in time and what better than the lesbian women's soccer team right now? Networks are free to do whatever they want but let's recognize it for what it is. They can't get enough of the obnoxious purple-haired woman. She's right out of central casting for the TDS folks who make up 40% of the country.
Ideologues get no payback from promoting their ideological beliefs? I don't know how to respond to that. Do you think Roger Ailes and Murdoch sought to make Fox News into a right-wing propaganda machine simply because they could make money at it?

No rational human being could actually believe what they believe.
You don't think about things you don't think about and you're not going to expend effort explaining why. That must've taken a lot work to cultivate such indifference and I appreciate such a work ethic.
I live in a daily world where every argument has to be backed up by documentary evidence and testimony of those with first hand knowledge, subject to cross-examination.
When people argue based on half-assed, characterizations of fifteenth-hand testimony given by biased actors, my eyes kind of glaze over. That's why most of the time, I merely post to identify factual errors or poor reasoning.

The media’s TDS seems merely tangential,
kick goal from USWNT on this world cup? I didn't watch this world cup. But I never saw these qualities in the past world cup games they played. IMO, the biggest difference between men's soccer and women's soccer is goalkeeper. Women's goalkeeper has no range, they are just goal stopper. This difference makes attacking a different game between men's soccer and women's soccer. The author is right and it's so obvious that women's soccer and men's soccer are not in same qualities. They are 2 different games. Demanding equal pay for different jobs/work is so absurd.

You, of course, won't read much about sexual harassment in women's sports, but I think it's common and hetero recruits will sometimes exclude programs with lesbian coaching staffs from consideration because of the locker room/shower situation and the atmosphere described in the article and the linked article about the straight WNBA player. I knew a women's player who played her freshman year at ND in the mid-80s, the year before McGraw arrived. She was Miss Basketball in Wisconsin her senior year of high school and led ND in scoring her freshman year. She was the best player on the team but she left after that first year because she couldn't take the sexualized environment: coaches and players eyeing her up in the showers in obvious ways and other things. Based on what I heard from her family and what I've read elsewhere, it's a complete subculture in women's sports.
And as the author of this piece gets at, most viewers aren't interested in watching butch she-males go to war on the court or the field, which is one of the reasons women's tennis has prospered while the WNBA has been a miserable failure.
Is our women's basketball team a lesbian or non-lesbian program now? With the greater openness now, would or should Muffet allow her players to out themselves if they wanted to do so?
But I'm sure there some lesbian players.
You can imagine the discomfort of more traditionally feminine 17/18 year-old walking into a program with lesbian coaches and mostly lesbian players in a sport like basketball. She's going to run into some rough old girls. I don't think there's a single demographic with a higher incidence of domestic violence.

I never said there was no politics involved with the controversy.
It doesn’t bother me. Narcissistic athletes can scream “hey, look at me” and grab media attention all they want as far as I am concerned.
