got into it with a member at my club...
was in the steam room with a group of members one of which was bragging about his 25 year old son...
i hate when folks brag...
kids not married and owns his home (my eyes roll)....
so i asked him if he owns it or is it mortgaged...
it's mortgaged but according to the member he owns it...
i reply that's it's not owned, kid has a mortgage...
bank owns it and he is a debtor...
shit when i was 25 i had a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage...
i didn't own my place, it was owned by the bank...
fast forward 35 years, i now own 2 homes...
lock stock and barrel (notes been burned), i only pay property taxes on both...
pisses me off, folks you don't own it till the note is paid off...
credit applications ask you whether you own or rent, they need to expand that to 3 conditions...
do you own, mortgaged or rent...
wouldn't you agree???
rhollis~~~
ps: debt sucks...
same thing with cars (i own both lock stock & barrel)...
But that's splittin' hairs, semantics
It's commonly called owning a home and i think you and i both know that
He's proud of his kid, nothing more, and nothing less
What are you doing at a "club?" that doesnt sound like your style from what you describe.....
But I finally found out that, for most of time in history, Americans were not like what they are today in term of saving. Actually as recent as in Regan years the bottom 90% of Americans still managed to save 10% of their income. Today the bottom 90% saved -10% of their income, i.e. over-spend 10% of what they earn.
Similarly on so-called democracy. Neither the Declaration of Independence nor the constitution says anything about democracy. Neither the President, members of the judiciary nor the Senate were elected by direct popular vote. Only the House of Representatives were directly elected by popular vote. We had township democracy which is local, a kind of individual and independent. This is actually a model of American liberty in her first 100+ years. So, where does this national level democracy, or say modern democracy, come from? It took me quite a while to find out its sin: Wilsonian idealism.

BTW, is there a hotter first lady than Melania in your life time? Jacky?

especially when you are in your steam room at your club.
In this day and age, most 25 year olds are living with their parents with $100K of college debt and a menial job.

my second home i own is where my children (2), son in law & grand child live, i charge them all $750/flat a month...
$750 x 12 = my yearly re taxes on the property = )
in addition, i pay the electric, phone, cable, gas & property insurance...
my only request is they save $$$...
this guy is greedy, i'm not...
so this flames me...

Problem solved. You're owner only when you pay because you are in debt.
it effects everything i come into contact with on a daily basis...
times have changed and for the worse...
what made this country great was hard work and saving for the future...
my wife and i lived very modestly and always saved for the future...
this was a rule taught to me by my mother and father...
seems like folks today couldn't care less about the future and live for the moment...
this effects the society which my wife & i are part of...
if we couldn't afford it, we didn't buy it... we couldn't care less what others thought...
today folks are leveraged to an extent which would causes me a great deal of distress...
our society is based on iou's... this effects us all...
i especially hate the marketing we are exposed to on tv, radio & print media...
spending $1,000 for a phone, that's insane but it's commonplace today...
i own an android which cost me $200 and i'm flaming mad about that!!!
it's a freaking phone!!!
same goes for cars, all the cool crap they put in a car costs me $$$ better spent elsewhere...
i don't need a computer in my car to tell me i'm not driving straight, pay attention while driving...
turn the fucking $1000 phone off & pay attention while driving...
don't need a back up camera in the car, turn yer freaking head around and pay attention...
don't need a fob to start the car, a key does just fine...
an average car today is coming close to the cost of my wife & mine first starter home, i'm freaking on 60!!! 60!!!
think hard about that, my first car (used in 1983) cost me $650 a 1976 buick lesabre !!!
most young folks today couldn't fix a leaking toilet, or do electrical work or maintain the appliances in their homes...
christ almighty if they have to replace a failed gasket in a leaky faucet, gotta go to www.iamadumbass.com to do that...
my ole man taught me carpentry, plumbing, electric work... fuck angies list, i know what crap costs...
i taught my kids as well, shit i'm a simple book keeper...
i guess i'm pissed because i grew up with balls and what we have today is a bunch of eunuchs...
people who pretend they are something they aren't, it's everywhere...
so the smuck in the club bragging about his kid who bought a home probably leveraged 95% can stuff it, stfu man...
the members kid aint' even married, without children to boot... nothin' to brag about...
guess i'm old school but i worry about my country...
we're getting soft...
doesn't it bother you???

Except the technology piece. My phone is awesome and so is my backup camera, and I paid cash for both. But I still fail to see why you let it bother you. The proper response is an "impressive" with a smile and a nod.
People in general are slobs, fiscally retarded, morally bankrupt and inept at basic survival skills I learned on the farm by the time I was six. But the way I look at it is that this is what makes you and I a part of the real elite. Society is doomed and neither you nor I can do a thing about that other than with our own children.
Peace oinks.
The country is screwed. I'm just trying to do right by my family now, and prepare my kids for the many tomorrows that will suck for them and their kids.
The man then got wise and figured I can make a buck on this, selling shit that peeps don’t need for instant gratification.
And so it goes.
but my grumpy ways are well-known.
