A black teenager whose death sparked an outcry in his Colorado hometown was running from police officers when he was shot four times, according to body camera footage and an autopsy report released Thursday.

The bodycam footage from the Colorado Springs Police Department shows De'Von Bailey, 19, running from two officers who were questioning him and another man about a reported robbery before being shot three times in the back and once in the back of his arm.

Bailey's family was "devastated" after seeing the "wholly unjustified killing of their family member," the family's attorneys said in a statement. The teen's family and friends had rallied this week in front of the city's police headquarters, demanding an independent investigation into his Aug. 3 death.

Colorado Springs police did not release a statement on Thursday.

In the graphic video footage from one of the officer's body-warn cameras, Bailey is seen with another individual, identified by CPR News in Colorado as his 19-year-old cousin, Lawrence Stoker.

Oh, I though Sting screwed up the lyrics to Roxanne.

A very average band, in my view.

Just kidding. I hear you. I like them anyway...or at least I liked them back in the day...I don't find myself listening to them anymore, but they were one of my favorites, and I had most of their albums.

Regatta de Blanc was probably my favorite album by them.

Here is one of their better songs that didn't get much play time as far as I recall:

let's be honest: shooting an unarmed person who's trying to escape is probably improper use of force. in this case, the guy was armed with lethal intent.
let's be honest 2: people who aren't committing or are accessories to crimes don't put themselves in the crosshairs.

we need to teach basic morality at the family level. none of these things would happen if there were proper behavioral standards enforced from birth on.

good luck with that. having kids today is a hobby for too many.

Yes, if an officer stops you for any reason. Don't run.

The perp was reaching for his weapon as he ran. Do you think it difficult to fire back, at near point blank range, at a pursuing cop? And, of course, it turned out that the perp did in fact have a gun. I certainly don't want our cops needlessly risking their lives in these types of situations just so that they can avoid the hysterical criticism of activists and dopey white liberals.

The only people who f-ed up here were the perps and their mothers.

It's possible he was reaching for his weapon, I'll give them that.

But he was in an all out run, so I have big time doubts he was doing anything but run and maybe toss the weapon while he was running. The point being, he was in full flight with his back to the officers and they in fact did not see a weapon in his pants. It's possible he was reaching for a cell phone. No shots hit him in his front and the video clearly shows the kid running away.

Two things, he wasn't going anywhere and they had his pal.

It's a dangerous job and sometimes things get muddy. This didn't look like it was one of those times (edit - muddy - it's always a dangerous job).

They were investigating a violent felony.

They told the decedent and friends they were going to pat down for weapons. Perfectly lawful Terry stop and frisk.

After being told he was going to be patted down and to keep his hands up, the guy runs. To do his job, the cop has to pursue.

Officers were completely justified in assuming that he was armed given all that.

Guy is reaching for something on his person as he runs.

Cops’ adrenaline is off the charts. Almost all of the critics have never been in that situation.

Guy turns out to be carrying a firearm.

Unless there is something else seems like a good shoot.

I may have mentioned this before but I was once on a real back in the day ride along at night when I started handling this stuff. Was with a cop who made a normal traffic stop of a black guy in a high crime area. Of course 90% + of the peeps in that neighborhood were of color. It wasn’t profiling. He called for back up, telling me just to sit tight in the cruiser while he approached the car. Back up was there in several minutes which were the longest in my life to that date. You really don’t know what’s in that car or what’s gonna happen. Plus ten pucker factor for me. Routine stop for him. If I had seen that guy reaching for something, I sure as shit would have shot him. Cops are people too with the same survival instinct and emotions we all have.
