If so, I like that.
They are companies we all need and use but hate them at the same time. Welcome aboard techies
Facebook especially. If she promised to eliminate it, I would vote for her twice.
Is Big Tech that only thing that saves us from Russian/Chinese hacking?
Is Big Tech trying to gather a personality portfolio of every consumer to manipulate them?
Whatever Big Tech is doing, are others with less visibility developing the same stuff?
That answers your first question: No.
To your second question: Big Tech is indeed tryign to gather a personality portfolio of every consumer to manipulate them. You already knew the answer to that question, didn't you?
I think that whatever Big Tech is doing, Little Tech will do it just as well when it comes to substantive tech development, but much worse when it comes to invasion of privacy and suppressing free speech.
The profit motive essentially creates the technology but also causes it to be misapplied as far as what's good for the humans.
NASA created a bunch of tech that we still use today, and I like that model, but doesn't work so well for a debtor nation.
I suppose one compromise could be to make them utilities. Or, just extend the 1st Amendment to them like it applies to government controls on speech...but that requires an Article V Amendment or an activist SCOTUS.
Don't allow them to deny service to those they politically disagree with or to apply their terms of service (cough) "unevenly." Allow lawsuits to proceed when it's obvious that's what's happening. Examples are the bogus game-playing they've done with people like Scott Adams or Mark Dice, in which they de-monetize their videos, then re-monetize them after an appeal, at which point it no longer matters, because the content has already been available for days and viewed by most everyone who will watch it (i.e., advertiser money opportunity is all but gone).

It's the last place (other than straight up military might) that we dominate.
I'm not sure I want to give that up.
