Pelosi has her answer in her own press release: "“American leaders’ highest priority is to protect American lives and interests,” If Trump had told Pelosi and Schiff, they would have warned the Iranians, leaked to the press, and put our soldiers in danger for their political points. They are so mentally ill with hatred that any enemy of Trump is an ally in their minds.

The POTUS has this latitude as has been shown time and tme again. They know it.

We have had the ability to kill Soleimani many times. We never did, not even during the terrible years in Iraq.
You underestimate how big he was in Iran. This will unify the country against us - all sides, reformers and hardliners. No deal - the thing Trump has always said was the point of the “maximum pressure” campaign - is possible now.
It won’t be a conventional war, with an assault on Tehran. But many people are going to die.
That’s reality.

  Clear as to his activities. His facts are not in dispute. The Sxtate Dept says that The Guy was directly involved in the planning of attacks of 1/3 of all American deaths to terrorists in the past decade. He was in Baghdad planning further attacks against us. Pompeo has the Intel here, and you and I dont.
  I see this more as a predictable matter of trust or you that comes up with every difficult decision Trump must make.
  Peace comes though strength. The Iranians will do less when they know that there will be consequences.
