(Genuine question. I'm sure there's a reason based on the way the story is told...I just haven't seen the movie.)
I understand why the critics thought it was a film masterpiece, but the second half was too dark and “Kill Bill” for our taste.

The movie is apparently based on Fred Roger's friendship with an Esquire reporter who interviewed Rogers, wrote a piece on him, and then became friends with him. Maybe the primary actor plays the reporter? Don't know. They are certainly not advertising it that way.
