Between that and ACA, the conservatives seem right that the government is incapable of solving problems.
The progressives seem right that the government is the only entity that can solve these problems.
So where's that leave us?
Congress is completely incapable of addressing an issue of this scale. Besides, Congress would never act on this, no matter which party is in the White House and/or holds the House and Senate.
It should be left to a bipartisan committee, similar to the Simpson-Bowles committee. Then, run it like the military base closure committee, with no ability for Congress or the WH to interfere.
