This will calm Chris's fears more than anyone else on this board because this man is an unassailable expert.

Is that there is nothing preventing this from flaring up again in China, other than a continuation of social distancing, shutdowns, etc. When we turn the curve lower in the US, the same will be true. It’s not as if we have developed immunity. It can flair up again at any time.
Until we develop a vaccine, this thing will be hanging over the global economy.
And for all you morons who love the Chinese response. A study just posited that if the Chinese had stopped their absurd coverup just three weeks earlier, there would be 95% fewer cases now globally...and 95% fewer deaths.
I thought their handling of the outbreak has been pretty much universally condemned.
I do expect that - once the world seems to have turned the corner - there is going to be a global groundswell of anger toward China, seeking answers and some sort of retribution.

But now they have less new cases per day than us by a wide margin...despite the fact they do many more tests per day than us (our new cases are probably still very under-reported). We should learn from their recent measures as they've demonstrated this thing can be stopped with mass testing and quarantines.
Still doesn't get them off the hook for starting this mess.

The world isn't black and white BVZ. It is true that they caused this mess. It is also true that they are now doing somethings that we should be doing here if we want to get it under control.
Or we can ignore the things known to work and end up like Italy just to spite the Chinese...that's a better approach?
And based on the infectivity, most of that exposure will happen before a vaccine ever becomes available.
I isn’t worth ruining the world economy over an inevitability.
And China is a ruthless, communist regime whose citizens have no rights. Is it a surprise that China can lock down its’ people better than the western world? You admire this?
They have "fever stations" in every building. Anyone with a fever gets a test, which unlike here is readily availble. If positive the person is quarantined and can't spread it. That's what has been successful. Much more so than any enforced lockdown.
In the US, we have made a conscious decision many years ago (before Obamacare and carried through Obamacare) that such tests are to be carried out at a providers office. The reason for that was so that the tests are a) done correctly, b) not done during the window phase so that people are not falsely reassured, and c) because people can be selfish idiots and they would test themselves everyday burning up Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance dollars inappropriately.
In some other countries, they make such tests over the counter.
There have always been tests available in the US. But you have to go to your doctor.
When the CDC guy was grilled about this by a Dem in Congress last week, he explained this. Of course, the media spin that into another “the US healthcare system sucks” and another “Trump sucks” storyline when in fact, it was just another example of fake news being pedaled to the underinformed and misinformed.

At least in Colorado, people that have doctor's notes to get tested aren't getting tested...there is one state facility and it is totally overrun.
I trust Fauci. He’s a pro. If he says it, do it.
And they have skin in the game.
