The members of the coronavirus task force typically devoted only five or 10 minutes, often at the end of contentious meetings, to talk about testing, several participants recalled. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, its leaders assured the others, had developed a diagnostic model that would be rolled out quickly as a first step.
But as the deadly virus from China spread with ferocity across the United States between late January and early March, large-scale testing of people who might have been infected did not happen — because of technical flaws, regulatory hurdles, business-as-usual bureaucracies and lack of leadership at multiple levels, according to interviews with more than 50 current and former public health officials, administration officials, senior scientists and company executives.

PS - I will tell you again with 14 years of medical training, and 30 years of practice, it is not a matter of “if” but “when” we will all be exposed. And the epidemiological tipping point was somewhere in late 2019 when China was keeping secrets. As I said below, once the point of adequate preparedness is reached by our hospitals and medical system as determined by the CDC, then it is to our benefit to get back to work and school and start building herd immunity with sequestration of at risk populations and general populations in hot spot areas.

Dismantle programs. Cut funding. Appoint political half-tards to crucial posts. Leave others unfilled for years at a time. And all the while degrade and attack the policy professionals.
You don’t then have a right to blame the bureaucracy for underperforming when a crisis hits.
As to the virus - again, you do not seem to get it. The curve is being flattened until there is a treatment or vaccine. If the latter comes faster than we think, then not everyone will get it, and we will have saved many lives. And if the former comes faster, then fewer will have serious complications. That’s what this is all about - decreasing the spread until there are treatments.
