In Michigan, African Americans make up 15 percent of the state’s population but account for 35 percent of COVID-19 cases. Worse yet, African Americans represented 41 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the state.
I live in a suburb within Wayne County, which also includes the City of Detroit. We have a population of ~36,000 and have had only 150 cases and 13 deaths from COVID 19 (most in senior citizen homes). But... we are all on lock down and businesses are going bankrupt and workers are on unemployment... which will run out before the jobs come back. The situation in most of this state mirrors this trend. There are many counties with not a single death.
These patterns are being repeated all across the country and everybody knows it. Those who are lobbying against re-opening are playing with fire. This will have a huge impact in the November election, especially in the Midwest battleground states.

Which may have led people not to practice social distancing.
Plus, many of the risk factors are unfortunately over-represented in African Americans.
Plus, access to effective healthcare is unfortunately under-represented in the community.
Cue Dim calling me racist in 3...2...1...
unnecessary suffering, and a deepening g of the divide in this country which you can already see politically.
Of course NY with its subway system is going to have widespread cases.
Of course a city like Detroit is going to have a COVID problem.
But where I live, we have 3 total cases in the county - minor - with no hospitalizations. We have 5 cases in the 3 county area and no hospitalizations. The same solutions should not apply.
IN FACT, THEY SHOULD LET US PUSH THE ECONOMY NOW SO THAT WHEN WE GET IT DOWN THE ROAD, THE CITIES CAN BE RECOVERED ENOUGH TO TAKE OVER.
We will all be exposed. Our healthcare system is as ready as it can be. It’s time to save our livelihoods. But Whitmer will only do what is politically correct for the Left, and she LOVES the power to shut people down.
She who was born into immense wealth with the dad who helped found Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has always been able to tell others what to do. She won’t change now.
Possibly missing the part that the settle in place order is to stop the virus from spreading and killing citizens so that it can be controlled? Possibly your hood is unlike NEW YORK in that it’s not an internationally traveled community so it received the virus later after the settle in place order therefore you won’t see the same type of outbreak?
I question your logic.
It is still worthy of isolation protocols in highly affected, high population density areas, as well as of at risk people everywhers, but not of entire population lock down in low affected areas. Dr Fauci and Birx have said the same.

But it actually causes more harm.

The burbs are not rural but they are predominantly white. Whitmer is miscalculating. Soccer moms will not be happy with the loss of family income and especially health care benefits. And Whitmer is proving that one size fits all is a disaster. There goes medicare for all.
