Much will be learned about pandemic response in the aftermath of this. Maybe Sweden has it right.
It should not be political.
We do not need armed hillbillies storming state houses.
Unless we want a major depression for the next 5 years.
as well as lives deserves our admiration. Yes, it should have nothing to do with politics and ideology.
Funny how they are the most facile with the dictatorial approach. No surprise.
In my case, Michigan will be in lock down until November if Whitmer gets her way.
She is auditioning for Biden right now, and liberal virtue signaling takes precedence over real data from Sweden.
She just doubles down.

All about their own power.
"What I think is best" isn't a basis for locking down peoples' basic freedom.
it with certain governors - esp Michigan and Cali's.
P.S. - i did predict that they would do this. No matter what, if their guy gets in in November, all of their previous COVID concerns will immediately evaporate.

NYC vs Stockholm, Italy vs Germany, etc.
I think we have done a reasonable job of attaining our goal of not having hospitals overwhelmed in the first wave...even in NYC.
The reopening has to happen and yet it also must be watched carefully. There are still many, many unknowns.
There is a 20% add on payment to doctors and hospitals when the corona virus diagnosis is used.
Combine this with a DRG code for corona virus diagnosis that includes an option for “coronavirus infection without confirmatory laboratory evidence” which of course is the only way to confirm the diagnosis of a disease with such general symptoms.
It’s called fraud, and it’s inevitable when set up like this. And it is also widespread.
....most doctors now work in hospital systems with remote billing coding done elsewhere by coders who review the EMR notes and also regularly get updates on how to maximize billing opportunities. The coders are also hired and released based on how effective they are at capturing charges.
The doctor says in his notes that “the patient presents with concern about having a covid infection” and describes nonspecific cold symptoms.
Boom - “COVID infection - nonspecific” diagnosis - 20% boost in payment.
Our perspectives on contagion and vulnerability and treatments and prevention are already vastly different than they were just a couple months ago and are still not settled. It's also totally unclear what our economic recovery and its long term consequences will look like. Decisions made in the heat of the battle are always a crap shoot. Were the Swedes heartless or just less prone to mass hysteria, or somewhere in between? Life is not black and white... unless you make it so.
They have a high death rate per capita, but Sweden’s approach has thus far been worthy of recognition and consideration.
Rest assured that Sweden is not cavalier about their approach.
Quite the contrary. They quickly isolated the vulnerable segments of their population.
........because our estimates of the virus were far off. I’m not pointing any fingers because we did the right thing with the info that we had. But now is the time to react to the new information and unlock ourselves.
This does not include extra time to damage Trump in the election nor less time to help him/hurt Biden. It has to do with what the facts are.
And until today, you guys dismissed everything we kept pointing to with regard to Sweden not locking down.
I wouldn’t gamble as they did, but I am willing to look at their results and react accordingly.

article that they have not done very well according to the numbers?
They knew their numbers, and calculated they had ample resources and supplies to manage the strategy they chose.
It is still dicey if their infection rate takes off. So far, they seem to have stayed their course.

Into a push for nationalized healthcare.
That's the one thing they regret so far, not isolating the vulnerable population quick enough.
Even Sweden had issued lockdown, it would not save deaths from nursing home. We can argue there must be some problems in Sweden's nursing home management, but that's a different issue. A society is far more than just nursing homes. If you look society as a whole in Sweden during this pandemic, Sweden looks and does really well.

Not much to laud.
for their own deaths.
