patients with COVID. Where would have put all of these people as in many cases they constituted the majority of the patients in the NH’s? Who would you have care for them? Orange and the feds? What would the Cole plan have been and who would pay for it?
had excess capacity. This has been well documented. Instead, Cuomo ordered patients to nursing homes which inherently have a susceptible population, as proven out by the cluster of deaths in those homes.
as bad as was reported, and Cumo sounds like an ignorant, asshole. He owns the whole
mess. Colonel Klink and Sgt. Schultz all over.
good? Hospitals, not Cuomo dump old folks back to nursing homes all the time when Medicare runs out.
Maybe the NY Post has answers to some basic questions that you two obviously don’t
Where are they wrong?
I would like some answers to some basic questions though.
First, does Cuomo have the authority to override hospital admission or discharge decisions? These seem to be people who were either discharged or not sick enough to be admitted?
Second, where would you suggest they be housed as there are thousands of them?
Third, who would take care of them in whatever massive facility you would put them in? They need skilled nursing care not acute nursing care at that point. Where do you get the people for that?
Fourth, who pays for their care? Medicare won’t.
If you have been through this with an elderly parent you know these choices aren’t that simple even without COVID.
He'll live with it, he's a politician. Btw, I did go thru most of this scenario, not with my mom, but with my wife. The hospital sent her to nursing facility, and next morning the NH sentence her back. She died a week later in the hospital.
I had more than a few battles with both hospitals and NH’s. Freakin vultures.
Thx for ur condolences. Much appreciated

Unless hospital care is needed you can’t put them there. These are discharged people or people not yet requiring hospitalization.
You would virtually empty NYC nursing homes onto a ship and the Javits Center? Who takes care of them?
death because a hospital is not an appropriate place for an elderly person with COVID? That is very sadistic of you.
You obviously have never had an elderly relative discharged from the hospital under Medicare. The hospital UR and discharge personnel tell you when they go. Not Cuomo. Not the family. Not even the physicians. It’s the hospital either discharging them or refusing to admit them as they don’t need acute care. So you have to put them somewhere. Here are the choices if you can’t go to a nursing home; maybe the hospital ship or the Javits Center which isn’t a nursing care facility. Or to the family. Who looks after them if they go to the Javits Center? Not NH staff. Not acute care nurses. How do you solve this oh brilliant one?
COVID ripped through that facility and killed 55+.
It was stupid, reckless, and a sign of total incompetence.

They setup a COVID wing in the nursing home and segregated the others patients. Less than 10 of the patients had to come into our hospital because the nursing home did an excellent job of caring for the cases and protecting the others. I say this to point out that nursing homes are more than capable of handling the crises if they have good leadership and clinical staff.
and obviously know the health care system. Seems apparent that NY screwed this up, but how do you handle essentially mass hospital discharges of COVID patients, and the crushing amount of patients at NH’s that don’t require acute care hospitalization?
but dumbass Cuomo over rode these rides, a created the death zone in NH. That blood is on his
hands and no one elses
you can’t keep them in the hospital if they don’t require acute care.
Who is going to look after them? Won’t be any nursing home staff.
you would empty almost every nursing home genius.
Who will pay for it?
overode the in place policy and shipped sick patients back to NH, despite the fact he knew,
or should have known they were not equipped to treat. I don't know who is dumber, him or deBlasio
but don’t require hospitalization? You just let the NH’s kick them out on the street? That’s what they would have done.
They don’t require or qualify for acute care hospitalization and in many cases have been discharged. You stick them by the thousands on that ship or in the Javits Center? Who takes care of them? No NH staff. Who pays for it.
Not as easy as the moron brigade makes it out to be.
