I witnessed a F1, or microburst, yesterday. It scared the living shit out of me. I had several 70 ft + trees snap like twigs. One went right into my barn roof. With no power for 24 hours, I just cleaned up debris non-stop. I can't imagine living where F3 and higher are common, or Cat 3 or higher hurricanes loom. The wind I saw was pure power.
Slight risks that are just part of life.
Looks like in Tornado alley, you have a 1 in 7,000 chance of being killed by a twister.

You can typically tell by looking at the sky when bad things are coming. BUT you never know exactly where or when it's going to drop out of the sky. Just hope and pray.
However, I'd rather live with the risk of tornadoes than live in an area with things like poisonous snakes. They scare the crap out of me. Sharks too.
