........the USOC (now name changed to the USOPC) is not going to weasel out of this, and they picked the wrong people to offend. They are tough as nails and laser focused.

Protect or even warn others. They were in a position of responsibility with children that requires them to act, and they intentionally did not.
protection and these sports seem to attract predators.
If the parent's aren't going to be there to watch their kids, don't let the kids be there.
Many of the truly great talents left home as a child to be developed. These parents are not all bad people. Many of them move to live nearby and get a job in the area where their child trains. Those children live with the parents and still get strong parenting, yet they were abused also.
Your making a broad assumption, and your making an even broader death penalty solution for the sport due to the actions of a few.
lots of the same issues that these sports had. When my son was in scouts, it had totally changed. There was adult education on child protection that had to be done every 2 years, rules about having to have at least 2 adults at any meeting and an adult could not be alone with a child that wasn't theirs.
Scouts live with their parents too, it's not about living with their parents or not, it's that parents have to be involved.
If this didn't change, there would be no scouts. I don't see this changing in gymnastics, ice skating, etc.
Id drop Olympic model in total vs dropping competition. If many of the athletes hate their countries and all...why even have that, just can create their own teams and compete. We can then focus on the racist, cartoon dogs and stuff that really matter right now...
