Ironically the call of black lives matter is gonna lead to the deaths of many more Black people than had to occur.
The communities need to decide what they want from the police, not the crazy loon defund the police types.
Chicago crime violence can't be used for political gain by the Left, so they are no big deal. Only white cop on black death matters...not because a black man died because that is irrelevant, but because the event can be used for political gain by the Left.

Unfortunately, the call to defund the police has gained some steam from certain members of the Squad who seem to scream the loudest. I just saw Andrea Mitchell almost attacked during an interview and asked "where are the police". All the while standing on the BLM = Defund the Police mural in DC.
have to actually occur for there to be a problem.. The police are and will continue to just back off and scrape up the bodies. Been happening for years in Ballemar. That street crimes unit of the NYPD that has been disbanded was pretty effective. Yeah there were abuses, but overall it did it’s job well. Again, these communities, not the moron “activists” need to decide what they want from the police.

off. If you are talking about trying to destroy the system, yes they are serious and need to be opposed like the “Jews will not replace us” crowd. They are not serious if you are talking about real, viable reform.
More power to you, I guess.
Stop being such a baby. You jump in the middle of a thread where you knew I was talking about serious reform proposals, leave your dropping to be contrary and then whine when you don’t get an abject response.
Police have become a target for the "woke". Some are walking off and some are just retiring. How many young people do you think are signing up to take the abuse they are taking right now? It's ugly right now and I don't see it ending anytime soon.
I remember from my time in the military, the folks who comprised the military police were the ones who scored the lowest on their entry exams.....
Now through in the current situation, poor pay, lousy hours, high risk/low reward.......not a good recipe
Not hard to believe they could have a disproportionately higher percentage of bad apples.
But not to the degree that is being purported by the current mobs
There are not that many experienced commanders soon to be left.
It’s a real problem. But aside from that little dilemma, even if a dept can be scraped together it still leaves the main issue.
Again, the communities need to decide what they want. If you have aggressive, crime stopping policing, there will be incidents. If the current “scrape up the losers” model continues, there will be an exponential increase in violent crime.
...by more complaints where politically advantage can be gained.
We'll see where this spiral ends....

It's going to be buried and not covered. I didn't hear anything about it being BLM related.

get their way. I can think of one in particular. Normally, they don’t though.
See Minneapolis/St. Paul, Madison, San Fran, mant/most major cities. The list of preposterous ordinances, laws, policies is long.
Most of you have been wrong in estimating the power and effects that these people have built. Why in the world you would assume that they will not implement many of their objectives is beyond me. Part of the reason is that like most, people here are almost exclusively focused on the federal level, whereas the greatest effects of government are felt at the state and local levels. I would love to hear the names of which mayors in LA, Philly, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, etc., will hold the line as the demands with regards to law enforcement grow and become more absurd. Upon what evidence do you base your assumption that they will put their feet down and resist? So far, what are the examples from these cities of mayors and city councils telling BLM, "No?"
need a funded police department. They will pay lip service to the nonsense, but in some way shape or form we will continue to have funded policing with large budgets in every major municipality.
You also miss the forrest for the trees. There will always be funded policing. What form it takes is the major issue.
And since you didn't answer my question, I'll answer it for you: we've seen no indication whatsoever by the mayors in those cities that they will stand up to BLM and offer opposition. So, you can take as an act of faith that they will develop the gumption when it comes to not handing policing over to completely neutered "police officers" in name only, social workers, therapists, and community organizers, but there isn't much reason to have that faith at the rate at which these leaders are acquiescing.
Just think back a couple months and consider how most of you would've reacted if someone on the national stage advocated defunding the police? Things have accelerated so quickly that now many of you are left saying, "Well, they may defund the police and make the police take another form, but they'll never, ever abolish the police." Didn't Tommy Boy's dad have a pithy remark about guarantees? Given the track records of those folk getting everything wrong so far, I would caution anyone in buying into such empty guarantees.
I completely disagree that the police will be replaced by a brigade of social workers and therapists. There will still be unformed police with full police powers as we have now. That may be supplemented on calls by some of the peeps you mention who will be with the officers. Paradoxically, that is going to lead to increased funding. The number of sworn cops though isn’t going to be significantly reduced. How they do that job though could be changed significantly.
And the person proposing the preposterous solution is dead serious about getting that different goal.
Defunding the police is a stupid motto, when the vast majority in that movement want to reform the police.
