New Mexico has been one of the most proactive states in the country. They shut down early, were one of the last to reopen, had one of the first statewide mask orders, and currently have a 14 day quarantine for all visitors....
Their reward is to take in AZ's Covid overflow.

You are just like Trump. Stop lying and go with the scientific data. Or STFU.

Ie., an outlier and irrelevant.
...and what is happening there is not an outlier.
Go to US then sort by deaths per million

Death rates lag significantly behind case rates, and then jump considerably when hospitals get maxed out, which is just now happening in AZ.
They could have learned from the places that the virus hit first, but did not.
just as we both wish there had been far far far less in New York.

You are not part of the USA in your own mind or self description. Instead, you see yourself as a “Blue Stater” - a sub segment of the country, and you do not associate yourself with “Red Staters”. This is sad, selfish, small minded, and represents the kind of partisanship that is dividing the country.
Blue states have taken it seriously, red states have not. That is on Trump who politicized what should not have been politicized.
I see you have no defense of the way Arizona's republican governor has handled the virus, so you lash out at me for pointing out the facts.
Also, you realize that IL and NY pay more in federal taxes then they get back right?

The virus is serious. The lockdowns helped contain it. Social distancing and masks work. Dr. Fauci knows more than Trump on what should be done.
Trump and the Republican governors bungled the reopening by doing too much too soon, opposing masks, downplaying the threat, and attempting to discredit the experts.
The result is the virus is surging, killing thousands, and will cost Trump a re-election that should have been easy. You know all of this to be true, which is why it makes you angry.
The whole country is shut down, and you think Trump isn't taking it seriously enough. He is trying to get it going as the cure becomes worse than the disease, and your insanity makes you do the opposite. You would watch the country die rather than miss a chance to hurt Trump.
A shout out to Alaska though, they have that social distancing shit down!
Hard to wash your hands thoroughly with no running water and to social distance when large families live in small dwellings.
NM has flattened their curve, which has kept their hospitals from being overwhelmed and really is the only thing we should be shooting for until a vaccine/treatment is available.

See recent Supreme Court decision regarding state murder charges in Oklahoma.
Navajo that live in NM get counted towards the total in that state, but none of the state laws or rules are in effect there. Also, their entire health care system is run by the feds.
Not saying that the Navajo haven't been proactive, as they have been, but for people of comparable (non-indigenous) socioeconomic backgrounds, NM has been one of the safest places in the country.
Also, the situation in AZ is a total shit show, which is why they need a neighboring state to take in their overflow. I stand by that 100%.
I guess I could blame the elderly in AZ...
Sorry for the flippant response, I have to run for a bit...
They have a trust duty to provide health care to the tribes, and they have failed on the Navajo Nation.
I want a flavor of single payer as well, but I am concerned about competency which doesn't tend to mix with bureaucracy.
