On Friday 6 Germans died of COVID.
On Friday 1300 Americans died. Yesterday, 1250.
We failed dramatically. Horribly. And we will continue to fail, since we have no plan.
The economy will continue to flounder. We will continue to need enormous stimulus/rescue bills. Our debt is going to be unbelievable.
There is not one word of blame in this post. Try to remove politics from this...the numbers tell an irrefutable story of catastrophic national failure. And it should profoundly depress all of us.
Link: Our only way out. But we won’t do it.
You are simply wrong.
This is because the media is hyping the "cases per population" that I described which allows for the counting of deaths from nonconfirmed COVID cases. Given the number of TDSers out there faking data along with the very significant overcount that is happening because of increased reimbursement to Dr's and hospitals and a diagnostic code that allows for counting unconfirmed cases as COVID for billing - it is not surprising to see this discrepancy.
I suppose that it won't matter to you, but in the medical scientific community, we intentionally use "deaths per case" in order to require confirmation of diagnosis to avoid false information from nonreliable reporting countries. Right now, the Left's behavior on reporting mirrors that of a third world country would, and I would fully agree that the DISCREPANCY of those two numbers indicates an atrocious reporting problem that needs evaluation. But the accurate number here for COVID deaths can only be the number where there is laboratory confirmation. This is how science works.

Deaths and cases per million mean nothing, apparently. Hospitalizations too, obviously.
People outside the Trump Cult who think deaths-per-case is the most important stat: 0.
The spin is amazing...and depressing. So depressing.
Hundreds of thousands of us are doomed.
....it's (Death per Population which requires no lab confirmation) discrepancy from the number that cannot be faked (Deaths per Case which requires lab confirmation) means that we have thrid world reporting conditions here in the US.
Instead of giving me political diatribe, please feel free to engage in a discussion about any aspect of the facts that I have explained to you.
The reason that I am depressed is that you believe a convenient misuse of statistics rather than the standard medical reporting which is specifically chosen to avoid the trap of false data that you have chosen to believe. I even provided reputable data and source. I further provided an explanation for the discrepency). I guess you only like to follow science when it's convenient.
The extent of the epidemic is cases per million people, controlling for testing.
Covid kills at the same rate worldwide, at least in countries with similar medical capabilities.
Again: on Friday 1300 Americans died. 6 germans.
There is no way to spin that.
.....and the MSM has proven o many occasions that it is NOT verifiable.
Btw, our numbers could be better for sure, but we take as many immigrants as the rest of the world combined.
Our inner cities have health access issues, our medical system has been spoiled with good Drs leaving in droves, and many of the indigent who have access don’t bother.
But we try to do what nobody else does.
Containment failed.
Blame whomever you want, but containment failed.
We now know that China knowingly released people into the US BEFORE THE NEW YEAR. Containment was never possible, only flattening the curve.
And our real numbers are in line with elsewhere. You are being fed propaganda.
Blaming “leadership” when Trump was in charge was also inevitable from you.
I can actually only think of a couple of leadership decisions that have made a significant difference:
1) TrumpTravel Ban from China early on and against heavy political resistance was key for buying us 6 weeks or so. This was a huge part of why we were able to “flatten the curve”
2) Sticking recovering COVID patients back into nursing homes while still infectious caused half of our CONFIRMED deaths. This was done by the governors from NY, PA, and MI, and it was done for political reasons against the demands from the nursing homes. Those governors should face charges for that decision imo. It was a well known risk that they took for political reasons.
3). Cutting the regs at the FDA for meds and esp vaccine development has been big.

Otherwise, it’ll be a series of remarkably expensive relief packages until - and beyond - the time when a vaccine arrives.
Where they actually locked down they are getting back to normal. And barring Americans.

There is definitely a genetic component to this. Article I saw the other day said they tested blood donated between 2015 and 2018 and found that 40% had T cells that recognized this virus.
There's also a cultural component, no mask wearage at Sturgis. 250K people.
Every country is somewhat unique and the policy should account for that. Our policy appears to be to have as many people die as possible.
I did read the article re the possibility that many humans have some type of natural immunity already built in.
That is a hopeful path that may help scientists.
Although many folks enjoy that immunity, our numbers suck which is a function of poor leadership by Trump.

NYC tri State area got pummeled early on. They learned. They took strong measures going forward. Those efforts have been successful.
The Sun Belt and other parts of the nation had ample notice. They did not take it seriously. Your posts treated it as a typical flu and an overblown media hoax.
You were wrong then. You are part of the problem.
Want schools to open? Vote Democrat in November.
Then you politicized a treatment shown to reduce the death rate by half when administered properly, effectively killing tens of thousands.
The blood is on your hands.

Tremendous mask discipline. Everyone walking and biking outside wears a mask.
Much more economically vibrant than I would have guessed, as restaurants have brilliantly adapted to create outdoor seating. The island has had 36 reported cases and 1 death since the pandemic began, and the ferry traffic has been normal volume.
Even those riding a bike away from any people wear masks, as a visual tool and reminder to fully respect this virus.
Super impressed with Nantucket, but given the island’s resilience and grit over centuries to sustain itself, they can handle a pandemic.
Leadership matters. Setting the example matters.

No need for masks y'all.
since April. Stop making shit up.
I guess all you Florida dudes don't leave your county. Covid apparently doesn't jump county lines either.
Maybe it should be even more de-centralized. Guy in charge of the neighborhood watch could come up with the covid plan. Or not.
