I'm tempted to exclude anything from the past 10-15 years, because pop music has become so utterly awful, that a proper list of these could be composed of most any random pop hit over that time period. I'm more interested in the 1960s through 1990s.
I can listen to the Hootie song now but the radio around here seemed to play that track every third song.
...they carry a lot of memories of the time period. The teen years, for example...there are songs I hated back then, but I heard them everywhere, in the car, at parties, and they carry great memories so I will listen to them now.
Not the Macarena, though...that is awful.
I'm cool with Hootie, though! Especially newer Hootie...
I'm sure this is blasphemy for some here, but wow, I really hate this song.

Hated that song the first time I heard it. Some songs grow on you, though...this one never did. Some of my friends loved it...mostly girls, though.

This was the next one in the youtube autoplay sequence after Cash's Personal Jesus...a great version of a great song. Gotta love Johnny Cash.
And the next one. Great stuff.
Listen to the pie-anna player play.

ABBA excluded, of course.
Honourable mention to this year's Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles. I actually like Styles but that song is just so bad.

I should just cut ‘n paste his entire top 40 chart list, but I prefer not to projectile vomit on my iPad.
For the love of god do not let this tune get stuck in a loop in yourn head.
I understand he's having a difficult recovery from COVID, so we're talking about he songs...not the man, folks...wishing him well.

Hate to say it again, but that song sucked too
There was another song around the time of the latter that went like, "You had a bad day..." I've apparently blocked the rest of it from my mind.
And I would be remiss in not repeating a valid note by Jakers from the past in that pop music in that period from like 1989-1991 was particularly awful and offers numerous contenders in this category.

"The Night Chicago Died" deserves mention from that era, as well.

I drove thru Nebraska (and back a few weeks later) during the summer it was released and that's all
those cornhusker radio stations played every other song. Didn't like the song to begin with and that made
it worse.

It has most everything I hate in a song: sappiness, overproduced, plodding, wrapped with a cloying voice. It's an awful song.

A lot like a Marilyn and Alan Bergman tune for the 70's pop culture. Not sure why you think it blather. An opinion for sure but why? A memory tune, very evocative with terrific harmonies and lyrics.
not rock and roll. It reeks.
