It just dawned on me the other day that on the Open I almost always look at the handle of a poster before I read the post. Based on the poster, I may not even click on the post. And I definitely have a prejudice before reading posts. Unfortunately, there are posters that I have poor opinions of.
Conversely, on the Footy I almost never look at who the poster is. I only look at the subject line to decide if I want to read on (admittedly though, I now check to make sure it isn't DrVenkman). In addition, I don't have my opinions of Open posters spill into the Footy. I "like" almost all of the posters over there (even if I don't like them on the Open).
Anyone else have the same experience? Or the opposite?
On the Football Board there is a shared vision. To see the Irish football team succeed. There may be different ideas on how to get there but there is a commonality of vision.
The Open Forum has no shared vision. That's just fine but the problem here is this used to be a place of where differing ideas were offered, considered and debated (rarely resolved, but respectfully debated). More recently it's become a place where debate is non-existent. People are entrenched in their foxholes and "the other side" is too. Honestly, start any political thread and before they say anything I can tell you on which side of the argument jim, Frank, Baron, lil' baron, Chris, conor or Tampa et al will fall. And then the usual tag-along cheerleaders offer their support of "their guy" or insult "not their guy". It's the same every day.
The only really interesting discussions these days are the non-political ones. Movies, music, non-political newsy stuff. The rest is just mind-numbing.
You did miss our own Jake the Q Anon Shaman.
Jakers and I go way back (a shared love of obscure Star Wars quotes) to a time when both of us spent more time here so I'm prepared to cut him some slack where I disagree with him and I think he's prepared to offer me the same courtesy.
He also posts some crazy, vile stuff.

I realized that I never look at handles on the Football forum.
