See 18:25 ish on regarding diverse clerks.
There seems to be a belief that if young people see people like them in successful positions, it will inspire them and they’ll work hard to attain those positions themselves. However, when the exemplars attain their roles not through excellence but because of their characteristics, are you really setting the young people up for success?
The problem for blacks, and similarly fir Latinos who take a similar approach, is that those trying to assimilate into American culture usually have to fight to attain their spot, thereby achieving some level of respect from the in-groups. Arguing for representation based on characteristics rather than competency won’t achieve the level of respect afforded those who “earn it” specifically because achievement is based on a characteristic rather than hard work. It’s ultimately not a strategy that leads to an integrated society.

let's not turn a blind eye to what's actually going on...
we might also put our tax money where our mouths are and make sure our public education institutions have similar resources in all locations...a bit optimistic, but then, what's a heaven for?

significant numbers of white students at elite universities did not get accepted on academic merit...then ask yourself if you ever questioned the "pedigree" of a white person with an elite university diploma...next, ask yourself if you ever questioned the "pedigree" of an African American or Hispanic person with the same degree....if it's No" on the first and "Yes" on the second, then there is an inherent bias that needs to be corrected.
What ultimately matters is how those graduates performed...in their universities and in their careers after graduation...for Judge Jackson, the record is clear...excellence in both...case closed.

We’re talking about lowering the bar so there can be more diversity in high level clerkships. This is the slippery slope of affirmative action.

Like many, your immediate instinctive reaction is that the Judge is under qualified, and was nominated because she is black. You assume that diversity equates to being less worthy.
This Judge has demonstrated masterful command of the law. She didn’t dodge questions. Judge Brown Jackson isn’t taking the seat of more qualified white jurist. She is highly qualified and she is black.
So long as highly educated Americans like you still believe that diversity means less qualified, we should continue to push for diversity, not for the sake of diversity alone, but to demonstrate to ourselves that highly qualified people can be found in all demographics.
was his starting criteria for a search for the next SCOTUS. So yes, she was nominated because she is a black female. I don't care what color/sex is on the Supreme Court. I just want the best. Letting pedophiles off on light sentences scares the shit out of me and doesn't scream the best. These people are the scum of the earth and need to be disposed of when found guilty. I know you defend people like this but what they do to minors is indefensible They need to be exterminated because they serve no purpose in a functioning society. And if you think they do, you need to explain why. You won't though.
President Biden nominated this jurist because she is highly qualified, among the best and brightest of American judges.
Like President Reagan’s commitment to nominate the first female to the bench in October 1980, President Biden fulfilled his commitment to nominate the first black female to the Supreme Court bench.
Judge Brown Jackson is the real deal.
Clean the scum off your lens.

set the criteria for the search. I guess you would think she is the real deal because she is light on pedophiles and they fit right into your profile of clients. People like that allow you to live in your Ivory tower and look down on everyone. You're just a typical Liberal asshole.
Leaders of the American Bar Association, which gave Jackson its top rating, praised her Thursday as a “first rate” judge “without any biases.”
Ann Claire Williams, a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, said the association reached out to thousands of judges and lawyers nationwide — including federal prosecutors, defense attorneys and civil lawyers — and conducted confidential interviews with about 250 of those who had firsthand knowledge of Jackson’s abilities.
None of those interviewed, Williams said, felt that Jackson “demonstrated bias in any way.”
“The question we kept asking ourselves: How does one human being do so much, so extraordinarily well?” Williams said.
Jean Veta, another ABA member who co-led the association’s review of Jackson, said she concluded that Jackson’s “intellect is simply formidable.”
“She possesses all of the other important attributes of a great jurist,” Veta said. “She is practical and intuitive and curious and courteous and always impeccably well-prepared.”
Veta said that, when asked about the allegation that Jackson is soft on crime, “one high-ranking attorney in the U.S. attorney’s office responded, ‘I vehemently disagree.’ ”
“Another prosecutor, who has appeared multiple times before Judge Jackson, responded by saying such an allegation ‘absolutely was not borne out based on my experience with her,’ ” Veta said. “Instead, prosecutors, like the other lawyers we interviewed, praised Judge Jackson as a judge who considers all arguments before coming to a decision.”
Those were his words and his search criteria. Us pointing it out doesn't make us racist. You calling us a racist does make you a total piece of shit but you know that already.

My main problem with her is soft sentencing on pedophiles. Unlike you, I don't support that way of life and feel those people need to be executed as soon as they are found guilty. Do you see a place in our society where pedophiles would be accepted?
So take your racist claim and stick it up your ass. I also have a daughter and have always told her she can do anything she wants to do in life and don't expect things to be handed to her. So much so, she left behind a athletic scholarship behind at an unhealthy situation and walked on to her new team.
ignore that and go with the false information. It's easier that way, not too challenging. I get it, fear has a great deal to do with Republican's points of view - like, rampant voter fraud - undocumented workers don't pay taxes - black people aren't smart
and on and on. Facts be damned, you're right.

But yeah, pushing fear is a big part of how we live. Only Liberal logic.
condemn them.
limits of conversation to beyond stupid.
That you don't go with the facts is one thing we can attribute to you but needing to condemn sexual assault in any form should be a given.
But then, you all jumped right in, in supporting Roy Moore (supporting Trump is the same thing) but then you did condemn Weiner for sending dick pics to an underaged girl.
For you it's a partisan condemnation not a morals issue.
So, I don't think it's me or any D's that need to be overtly condemning pedophilia to you. it's you who need to be vocal about your stance - Confusing for you isn't it?
say pedophilia is terrible. You've supported them in the past so I just thought you approved of the lifestyle.
who is a pedophile, have.
You project.
Stop this false equivalence -
And to get back to the thread - Judge Jackson isn't light on sex offenders, in comparison with all judges across the nation. She is exactly the same as all other judges. FACT!
Stop the bullshit and Stop lying to everyone and yourself.
flat ass said so. Deny that, and quit with yr bullshit.
rejected on competence or performance grounds...arguably superior to some of the already seated Justices...and b) as with other Presidents who nominated the first Black Justice, or first Woman Justice, Joe Biden has the ability to confidently put forward the first Black Woman Justice, thereby demonstrating the American dream of achievement for all those who strive and possess the needed qualifications.
Too bad you can't appreciate that...try removing your blinders and you'll see much better.
It was an attempt at a racist appointment, no matter how qualified she was
other Justices already sitting on the Supreme Court...the "Black Female" aspect is an added...and much needed...bonus...this is why Joe Biden was able to focus on such an appointment. America will be the better for this.
she wasn't black, she wouldn't have gotten a sniff. Continue on with yr falsehoods, yr good at it
race she is?...we used to have all white men...what would be wrong with all nine judges being black females?...seriously.

than the color of their skin? That is a dream I fervently share with MLK, but you apparently do not. You appear to put exceptions on the dream, and you only apply it to chosen groups in chosen situations.
In your fervor to discriminate against white people to make up for past injustices (because you think 2 wrongs can indeed make a right), has it occurred to you that a qualified American Indian candidate or Asian American candidate had no chance to even compete for this SCOTUS position?
Scott case which even law school students and non lawyers would know. I’d think the same thing if ACB did something embarassing like that. But because she is black, YOU treat her differently.
I edited merely because I thought something more important to put in the headline of the post than just stating the obvious…..namely a good lawyer joke.

the definition of a woman. Here come the judge was stumped by that one. 🙄 She's a Biden appointee based on race only. Another Biden failure
and she would still destroy BVZ in a live debate.
show me if you can. Thanks for playing
He has his qualifiers. All SCOTUS judges all white. One of Trump’s 53 confirmed appeals court judges is Hispanic and none are Black.
was going to have Black nominee for SCOTUS right of the bat. Not even a pretense that this nomination was not going
to be racially based.

2) Your lack of a denial in your response only further confirms it.
And you are truly unable to assess yourself and your actual motives since you don’t generate your own positions on issue - you are programmed with them by the DNC/MSM. I know this from 44k posts and a lot of wisdom.
Going to bed now. Think on MLK’s Dream Speech.
And I support Biden on his race and gender nominee that opposes MLK's dream?
Seriously, you've lost control. You don't make one iota of sense.
“I have a dream that someday my four children will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”.
Biden did that very thing that King said needed to be changed…he chose based on the color of skin rather her than content of character….and he announced that it was his main criteria ahead o his pick.

asterisk next to her name is indelible. Screams Rascism
My view is simple. Earn it through hard work. There are plenty of people of all stripes who are in their positions through hard work. Dictating that representation in any endeavor should track representation in society means unqualified people will be elevated based on a characteristic rather than competency. Unfortunately that argument these days seems to be most applied in and to the black and Latino communities.
The "equity" left believes that society is composed of a hierarchy of oppressors and victims, and minority groups make up the victims. They seek to invert that hierarchy, and place the "oppressors" below the "victims" in their brave new world, not on the same plane. Come on, conservatives, this isn't difficult to understand. They want decidedly unequal outcomes, to the alleged benefit of the formerly oppressed, at the expense of the oppressors.
The ultimate problem is it’s unnatural in the same way that transgenderism is and people naturally reject it. The fact that rational white people support this suggests stupidity or brainwashing because it is destructive at a societal level.
Were it applied equally to all men and women we might find ourselves in a wholly different place. I like to think a better place.
I assume you're going to throw Obama into that as well oh and let's not forget Clarence Thomas too.
I mean, W Bush he definitely earned his stripes to be POTUS as did Trump, because they're white.
It must be tough for you knowing other than white people out there haven't earned their way to their positions. Taking Jackson in this
you're saying she didn't have a law practice, didn't work in a law firm before opening a practice, didn't make Harvard Law Review,
basically accomplishing nothing but did have each step in her career handed to her.
That puts you and those who agree with you in a very precarious position of having to answer this question, are you a racist or just mean and stupid?
And it is erroneous as to Thomas. He wasn’t evaluated only as to black men, btw.
They don't think that minorities can make it on their own.

of work on his part not to mention ability. So, I'm sure there were a few along his path who recognized his talent,
the some who opened doors for him but if you are implying, he was given his laurels you're sadly mistaken.
Your turn - please compare to Trump, Thomas and W. Bush?
and Trump for that reason?
It’s probably best you read the thread first. Then comment.
PS: I’m sure you meant beneficiary, yes?
By the way, I did read the thread and thoroughly enjoyed your back and forth with Lance, Baron and Ned. Thanks for the grammar correction, I'm always willing to accept constructive criticism.
