The adults are in charge?
Trust the science?
I have empathy for these confused children, but the progressive approach seems tragically wrong.

That is objectively wrong. Considering the total number of gender affirming surgeries each year is 10,000 give or take and that, obviously, includes adults who will make up the vast majority of that number.

Do you think treating people equally is racist? Free speech means censoring the Right? You guys sure are good at this crazy bullshit.
If you are truly ignorant of the dangers of administering cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to children, and encouraging or just allowing your child to think that he/she is really the opposite sex, you need to read up, fast.
And I take that as a "my number was totally made up." Cool.
Thanks for clearing that up and clarifying that you were only interested in the genital mutilation part, and not the other ways that this harms kids.

And never once have I said there is no harm to hormone therapies or surgery.
I repeat, this board is weirdly obsessed with the overall trans topic.
You went through those games to "circle back" to your original assertion, absent anything beyond your little assertion? Got it. You're such a worthwhile person with whom to have a dialogue.

You're the one with the sensitivity.
Jesus, you used to be one of the 3 normal posters on this board even during the Trump presidency.
I'm procrastinating writing 2 letters of intent I need to get done by mid-morning pacific time tomorrow. No sensitivity here. I don't know any trans people. Probably because they represent less than 1% of the population.
If you're too busy to read the article, maybe STFU.
Also...drug?

My party...I love it.
But you guys want to promote this stuff in schools, and fund it, and have your party leader tweet about it...while pretending it is no big deal. Does it make you wonder that you have to downplay what you really stand for? Why is that?
And I know of no one "promoting" it in schools, only people saying it's being done as an issue maker.
This is just one tweet I found with a quick google search. Not the one I was looking for, but good enough.

And his message was great.
Not sure if you're a parent or not, but this is an important issue for this parent of a 15 and 13 YO.
Congrats on being the same douche you were when you left.
In his defense, living on the dangerous side of town, procreating was never the right thing to do. Plus, does the rest of the family deserve two people ridin' on the edge between fast livin' and early dyin'?
And why am I spending so much fucking money on school?! Fuck!
Were you trapped in a glitch in the matrix or was I? Are they like 12 and 14, now?
And, like any issue with my kids, I'd deal with it personally as most parents would, I expect. Especially considering each situation has to be pretty damn complicated I imagine.
But we're off my point. This board has had a weird fascination with this topic for years. Trans athletes. Trans kids. Trans senior government officials. It's weird for a group that makes up slightly more than Native Hawaiians in this country.
A quick google search only yields directional data, but it looks to be a couple hundred kids a year. There are about 100 different things that seem more pressing if you care about kids in this country, and about 98 are more systemic and less personal.
Adults can do whatever the hell they want, like smoke weed or whatever. My posting history is fairly consistent on this laissez-faire attitude towards victimless behavior. I have no problem with trans people, but kids can't make these life altering decisions and the adults encouraging it, including The President are beyond the pale.
But yet the latter topic dominates the discussion from half the population while, as far as I can tell, the former is generally ignored. Your attention seems misplaced.
But, again, this is only one of a number of trans-focused topics that recur on this board. And it's fucking weird.
Allow me to explain why that's significant. If your hypothesis were correct, we would expect wide variations between societies based on their level of "tolerance" (defined in the weird way that you and the activists define it). We would expect the Scandinavian countries to have far lower suicide rates than those in Eastern European or Latin American or Middle Eastern societies, but we don't. This suggests that rather then being an environmental cause (like lack of role models), it is primarily internal. Perhaps...perhaps...encouraging children to believe that they were "born into the wrong bodies," which suggests that there is something inherently broken or wrong with them, perhaps addressing the psychological disorder without indulging in fantasy is the way to go?

Similar ranges of self-reported attempts. Completion rates are more problematic because men are much more "successful." Instead of blindly accepting propaganda from activists, it usually pays to investigate yourself.

The article states that the data doesn't back that narrative up.
But you're arguing against yourself at this point. So many whatabouts and what not.
When there are numerous published studies that most do not regret it.
And it's rather easy to write "studies don't back that up" randomly in the middle of story about 2 of 150,000 kids. But apparently just writing that holds up...or something.
The model:
1) Left goes nuts promoting trans admirals, hormone therapy for 12 year olds, male swimmers in female bathing suits (with junk), etc
2) Right says, “Hey, this shit is pretty weird.”
3) Left says, “What? It’s like 0.10% of the population. Why do you care?”
Laughable
Though I agree the Democrats take the medical treatments too far.
Issue #1 is "supporting" trans kids, i.e., making them feel welcome, wanted, etc. I think this is important based on suicide and attempted suicide rates in that population. Anything less than support is rather vile, in my opinion, as it's just the human thing to do. I would put appointing one or two trans people in positions of visibility to be in this bucket. "Hey, if that woman can be in a senior government position, maybe I'm worth something and shouldn't cut myself."
Issue #2 is the surgery aspect and I agree that it's at best uncomfortable and I lean towards enacting an age limit. That said, I defer to psychiatrists and other doctors that know better than I. Regardless of the original post, it seems like a very small number of teens that do this ultimately regret the decision. But, sure, put an age limit on it.
rights issue.
That children who aren't authorized to vote, drive (in most cases), drink, or make any of their other medical decisions, can make life altering decisions based on self-diagnosis and against their parents wishes. We're talking about 12-17 year old children here.
What a weird hill for you to show up all of a sudden to die upon.
While it's a complicated issue, I fall on the side of waiting. I think many Democrats go (way?) too far on this topics in areas that extend past showing love, support and compassion.
And I think many Republicans don't even get to the love, support and compassion part.
And I think the general trans topic isn't worth a lot of discussion.
I don't enjoy being a straw man any more than the next.
We're not much in disagreement here, I feel much the same way you do, but with a particular sensitivity towards teenagers and parental influence given my present situation (father of 2 teenagers).
I give trans people.the same love, acceptance and compassion as any other human, that's not the topic at hand here.
And I'm not a republican at all, so.
I pray you don't work in a profession where words matter.
I didn't read it at first, though I also addressed this board's trans obsession more than the meat of the article.
That said, it was also a rather weak opinion piece.
These people should be helped, not used as a political football.

There is zero, nada, zip, bupkis evidence that having Rachel Levine, or members of any group in prominent positions affects how often or whether members of that group cut or kill themselves. Do you know how stupid what you wrote sounds, nevermind the rest of that piffle?
Odd.
of status and influence affect the number of people in that group who self-harm or suicide? Well, golly gee, Lance, why didn't you post them? I want to see these.
Am I correct in assuming that you came in hot and made that assertion, and then searched for studies after the fact? Next time, you may want to reverse that order.
Could "help find affirming health care and other professionals" and "supporting communities" not be extended to having role models? Perhaps?
