He cannot attack Trump directly... but can do so indirectly by attacking Biden's age and senility.
He should also target all the big blue states where there are a ton of Republicans who cannot stand Trump.

Do you really believe it's DJT and his mean tweets that's the issue with these self serving engrained Rs? It's Trump's policies that shake up whatever scam they have going. It's exposing them. Unless DeSantis plays the game with these fools, he will do no better. What policy did DJT have that make you all so upset? The wall? His push back against China and NK? Moving Israel's capital to Jerusalem? Exposing voter fraud? Standing up to NATO and the countries who are not paying their share? Low gas prices? Fuel independence? Strong military? Support for law enforcement? Pro-life? Push back against funding climate change? Which one of these issues that he supported now has to force him to step aside? Do you think the media will fall in love and take it easy on DeSantis? Do you think the left , BLM, antifa, and their pals in Congress will now go down quietly because DeSantis is president? How about all these Federal judges and their law making rulings? Suddenly they go DeSantis' way because he's not DJT? You think suddenly Lizzy, Mitt, Murkowski and Collins fall in line and become good little conservative Rs because DeSantis is president? Do you think the scam that old Mitch and Kevin McCarthy have going will end? If mean tweets are that upsetting and takes precedent over results, there are plenty of R moderates who live to reach across the aisle every day. And yes, I will support DeSantis IF he runs and IF he wins just like I will support DJT , IF he runs and IF he wins. I am a huge fan of both.
personality is toxic. This alone will cost him millions of votes. Joe’s such a disaster people may go back and vote for Trump. I just think Desantis is the better choice.
74 million votes, at least, is not too shabby the last time out. DeSantis will do just as well. Whether it be DJT or DeSantis, they will be fighting the same uphill battles once they reach the WH, and that's just from the R DC elites. Those overly sensitive few who are willing to jump ship on Trump because he's mean seem to be all in with a brutal war on Russia. Go figure. It's interesting that there is really no response on what policies of DJT cost him "millions" of votes. What exactly is it? And if it's because he's mean, he was mean the first time he won and those "millions" of voters loved it.
