That is, if it is established that the draft opinion was leaked by a particular Justice or someone employed on a particular Justice’s staff, then that Justice should resign from the bench regardless of whether the Justice was aware of the leak in real time?
I also realize that conservative justices are less demanding of dogma alignment. It could have been a liberal clerk of a conservative, though I doubt it.
Remember, Sot was calling for young people to protest for abortion rights this Fall, even knowing that she had an upcoming case to hear where she was to supposedly be an impartial judge. Further she referenced her three newly appointed colleagues as bringing the "stench" of politics with them.
I suspect that it will be from Soto or her entourage.
Neither will you if it turns out to be one of the liberal justices.
That whomever would be forced to resign would be replaced by a progressive justice. Zero risk.

The point is protecting the integrity of the Court and their deliberative process.
The Justice whose clerk or staff member who betrayed the confidences of the Court, is tainted by the leak. He/she has to resign. It is the honorable thing to do.

All this is to pressure the shaky kill-Roe majority to stay together.

turn out to be bullshit?
Reading the article it seems as if Politico has an informant and is waiting for his/her report. Scum.
Well, at least we learned for sure that AG Merrick Garland does not have the integrity to uphold Federal Law in his failing to uphold 18 U.S. Code § 1507 - Picketing or parading, which we should have leaned from his desire to charge parents with criminal conduct for speaking out at school board meetings.
There is an interesting side story here; one of his daughters is a Yale Law School graduate (2019) and was hired by Justice Elena Kagan as a law clerk in July 2020 but the Supreme Court said that she could not serve while her father was the attorney general. So she'll have to move on yet perhaps making big money at a silk stocking law firm. That potentially could divert any plans to be a federal judge at least without the law clerk on her resume. Perhaps that caused the AG to go sideways from his testimony during his senate confirmation hearing.
With the parents school boad issue and now not addressing the Title 18 issue, he has shown that he certainly is not apolitical on issues.

He's married to Rebecca, Garland's other daughter.
He co-founded Panorama Education and has multi-million dollar accounts with 17,000 schools that include 10 Mil students.
It helps when your father-in-law is the AG and he launches the FBI on " terrorist parents " who would dare speak out at school board meetings to protest the woke garbage that schools impose on their children.
