The first COVID Relief Package would have been difficult, but overall manageable wrt to resulting inflation….and what choice did we really have when our govt agencies were forced into lockdown? But the second COVID rescue plan put through after the fact when Biden first got into office by the Dems was the biggest culprit.
You simply cannot print that much money and not have inflation.
Thereafter, the fiscal strategy of the party in power is where out further difficulty resides. The Dems believe that the way to cure inflation is to squash demand. They feel that the decreased economic activity of a recession is the cure. The Republican believe that the solution is to open up supply. The roadmap to recovery was provided by Ronald Reagan and Paul Volcker. This fed and President aren’t even shadows of the former in ability, and they are inclined in the opposite philosophical direction.
We also have the historical lesson of Bill Clinton after The Contract With America congressional election tsunami in ‘94. Clinton fought off his staffers and said, “if I stick to what you are telling me, I won’t be president in 2 more years”. He compromised and went along with virtually the entire contract…..and it worked……and Clinton got to claim credit for his political enemies solutions. But Biden cannot do what Clinton did. He is not as strong…in fact it is clear that he is not even fully in charge.
We are in a LOT of trouble here.
On the bright side, Joe Manchin, Sinnema, and the GOP senate prevented the BBB which would have put us dead in the water altogether.
