Just back from Ride The Rockies. 400+ miles, five crossings of the continental divide, much suffering. Was scared shitless going into it, but I did it! Took a couple flat segments off, but I did every climb.
Not bad for an old stoner.

I can go 50 miles in Michigan at 75 but it’s flat.

But it varied widely from day-day. There were two century days (110 & 107) and two days that were in the low 30s.
It was very windy, as it commonly is in the mountains and it seemed like we always had headwinds, which added to the misery.

How much training did you do to prep for that?
I probably averaged 150-200 miles / week in the weeks leading up to it.
I’m carrying too much weight and knew I would suffer. The toughest climb - 16 miles from Aspen to Independence Pass, with a 4,000 ft elevation gain to 12,000 ft - about ended me. The climb took 3.5 hrs, including breaks. Got to the summit and still had over 60 miles to go for the day. No way. I rode the support wagon for the final 25 miles.
Did not expect to do the full route but hoped to do all the climbs, so I’m thrilled with how it went.
