The Russians are simply barbarians, from Chechnya through Syria and then today.

It's an attack by mistake, not target attack. This is artillery war with daily 60k rockets/shells

from Russia. Had Russia intended to target civilians, the causulties would not be like this number today.

Civilian casualty is inevitable in any war. If you really care about civilians, stop Biden admin's effort to prolong this war before civilian causulties reach to the level of Iraq war or Afghan war.

Supposedly they were launched at maximum range from the Caspian Sea.

Which says a lot about Russian confidence in the survivability of their aircraft above the battlefield.

Thread Level: 2

Yep, that's so passe, they need to use drones to kill civilians like we do

There is no comparison between the US and Russian ways of war

We do not target civilians. They do.

If you’d not understand this, then you know nothing about modern warfare.

Most extreme examples, but historians also have a number of examples since like various stuff that happened in Vietnam, Abu-Gharab, Guantanamo, the brutal exit from Afghanistan, etc.

We've talked about that many times on here

And I have argued that we should not have hit cities.

I was talking about post-Cold War US policies. We do not intentionally target civilians. None of these involve targeting civilians: " Abu-Gharab, Guantanamo, the brutal exit from Afghanistan"

The extent to which we have tolerated "collateral damage" (civilian casualties) when we are targeting militants has varied. Trump gave the OK for a much lower threshold.

But Putin is in a whole different category.

You understandably want to frame it narrowly, but it doesn't reflect reality.

All your examples were wrong. This is not a controversial issue.

Compare what the Russians did to Grozny to how we treated ANY city in Iraq.

That war was stupid and criminal...but we didn't target civilians.

Nah, I'm just looking at the bigger picture.

Compare our experience in Afghanistan to the way the Soviets fought there.

We had ROEs that prevented even returning fire if there were civilians around. The Soviets burned whole villages and killed all the livestock.

It'd maybe be more apt to compare to Vietnam.
