"This greatest threat to our democracy since the civil war" is the destruction of some property, the death of a rioter and the delay by a few hours of the normal course of business and transfer of power. While what happened was atrocious. And frankly I am fine with criminal charges. But to bring out this "Bombshell" revelation and it ends up being someone telling something they heard 2nd hand, and that is that Trump is a petulant child. Give me a fucking break. This is just insanity. Really isn't this kind of the flip side of the atty for Trump saying they were going to release the Kraken on election fraud? Everyone said, ok lets see the evidence and nothing came of it. Now the media is all in a tizzy for news, all I heard was "Bombshell witness" comes forward. Huge meh.

The media and the dems have really put Merrick Garland in a corner here. IF he doesn't bring charges, the liberals will be pissed. Not sure there is much of a case.....

In addition to the revelations of the previous hearings...i.e. Trump was told he lost by his campaign manager and Attorney General, et al, back in December, and went on to concoct an illegal scheme to have V.P. Pence count bogus electors...we now know that he wanted to lead an armed insurrection in order to stay in power.

No free and fair election...no adherence to the Constitution or Rule of Law...no America.....I'd consider it a monumental threat for that man to have succeeded and in essence "Rule" our country...wouldn't you?

Inflation, foreign wars, abortion, etc. we can, have and will deal with...we have to make sure this threat never again materializes and these hearings provide the basis for future trials that will aid this objective.

Meanwhile, I'm very pleased with the Jan. 6th Committee's performance thus far...I'll toast you when Trump and his cohorts are in shackles...Slainte!

relative importance and impact of the coup attempt vis-a-vis other momentous events in our history, that's definitely subjective...I'm presenting why I believe this one to be so serious...i.e. it tears down the very infrastructure that enables us to have a truly representative government where the majority of Americans get to choose their leaders...that's a big deal for most folks, I'd say.

in 2020 because every county in every state certified the election properly...just as they should have...BUT...had there been even a few key Secretaries of State who thought DT's requests were "OK" with them (i.e. just five or seven individuals out of the ~160 million voters), we would be in a world of hurt right now...it was that close...btw, the Jan. 6th riot and storming of the Capitol was a last ditch effort to seize power when all else had failed...it was dramatic, for sure, but the threat ran much wider and deeper.

The Jan. 6th hearings are not simply about one day...they are exposing all of the efforts Trump...and his co-conspirators...employed to enable him to trash our Constitution and remain in power, thus destroying our democracy.

This whole sordid mess needs to be exposed for what it was...a Coup...and make sure that all involved..of which there are MANY, both in and out of government...are held accountable so that they cannot be a party to any future attempt...our Constitutional form of government won't be safe until this is accomplished.

On the positive side, we are following all 'due process' measures and allowing involved persons to tell their stories to the public and many have taken advantage of those opportunities...btw, most of them have been Trump admin officials and attorneys.

Finally, this administration can walk and chew gum at the same time as the other serious problems you mention are being dealt with very aggressively.

Yes, I do know why the committee was ushered in....

1. They want to try and tie any person that supported Trump is a traitor and therefor should vote for the Democrats come November and certainly 2024.
2. They hate Trump and want to make sure that he doesn't ever run again. See media hystronics the past several years.
3. They would like to turn the attention away from as Tyrone put it the competent handling of all of the other issues the country is facing right now. As it does not appear they are handling things very well.

But that is fine - basically hang your hat on this committee in the hopes it will turn the mid terms. That is fine, but call it what it is, not the savior of the democracy.....
