Some of it is rationale - 9/11, the Great Recession, Covid - makes responsibility scary. Part of it is the fact that the American dream is increasingly unattainable. Part of it is that minimum wage jobs are taken by adults. And part is the fact that youth is the goal.

actually. Only unAmerican blue cities have these kinds of weird things, lifeguard shortage or lifeguard of $360k a year.
One decided she wanted to work the concession stand this year instead. I told her she was nuts. Lifeguard is the perfect job for a high schooler. And you can do it when you are only 15 (at least in Ohio).
