Just visited with our ID Doc...here are a few points to ponder...
>The Omicron BA.5 variant is dominant across the U.S., and it's exceptionally transmissible...in fact, even those who have been vaccinated and boosted can get re-infected...MULTIPLE times in a year....BUT, don't take that as an excuse for not getting vaccinated or boosted since those meds absolutely reduce your odds of being hospitalized...
>Even prolonged periods outdoors amongst several other people without masking is a significant risk.
>Again...this isn't the common cold...if you're not vaxxed, it can kill you...as it is still doing.
>Noticeable symptoms come on rather quickly (see link)...runny nose, cough, sore throat...not so much breathing difficulty...
>Test yourself right away (antigen test)...btw, stock up for future gatherings...test the day of the event.
>If you get infected and you're not vaxxed, immunocompromised, or over 50 yrs...certainly over 70 yrs...call in for "PAXLOVID" antiviral medication.
>Mask with KN95, etc. when public indoor settings
>This is "Wedding Season"...be very, very careful in those settings...numerous examples of "spread" being seen.
>This coronavirus isn't going away anytime soon...we need to accept that and make decisions based on your risk factors...AND those of others you may encounter...i..e. be considerate.
Take a look at the linked article...as well as its links shown at the end...very helpful in understanding what the future is likely to be, given what we know now.
That's it...

Thank God for Joe Biden and the Democrats.

Do you not see why the UK CAN'T go back on recommending vaccines? To admit the vaccines are actually causing death would result in chaos and perhaps mass rioting.

Americans, who fully understand what's involved with abortion, still want it to be legal for at least some cases? I must have asked it half a dozen times...you always clam up and disappear.
Seems like a very relevant question...has been asked in many polls over the last 40+ years...why won't you respond?

roundtable, a stumbling block on abortion...those stats I post are very real...they represent the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of hundreds of millions of people who are every bit as good and faithful as you believe you are...you really should enter that conversation.
You cannot use polls to change the Constitution. There is a process for that. As far as SCOTUS is concerned, polls are meaningless. Can we agree on that limited point?
By the way, I'm not acknowledging your statistics. Just pointing out they are meaningless to a court case.
But, to your point, I suppose those 80% (if they exist), must be citizens of Blue states that implement the policy they want. Maybe they all live in LA, Chicago and NYC. Otherwise, you'd think Congress might have tried to codify RvW, or an Article V Amendment might have been ratified.
BTW, in this covid thread, I was really just poking you about your debate technique of pretending that your audience will agree with you if only they study harder when you know that policy issues are not merely a matter of study. I certainly wasn't looking to debate any abortion policy. If you think I am avoiding you elsewhere because of your excellent points, that would be a wrong assumption. I just don't think you are interested in honest debate, and I only have so much patience for disingenuousness, so I move on. I'm avoiding you, not your arguments. Be honest, and people will be more interested in talking to you.
because that's what it is now on keeping abortions legal in at least some cases...btw, they aren't just Democrats in "Blue" states...that overwhelming majority includes Republicans and Independents as well...millions of them...and those views haven't wavered since Roe was decided. IMO our nation's institutions should all (including the SCOTUS) have the best interests of its citizens in mind in all their decisions...this time our SCOTUS failed.
This country is built on 'Majority Rule' and on this issue there is no doubt where the majority stands...yet 28 states either have or plan to enact, anti-abortion laws and so leaving this up to the states will not reflect the wishes of the "Overwhelming Majority"...looks like the "Process" fight is going to be in the next election or the one after that so that abortion rights are restored and 'Codified'...with a such a majority it's going to happen...just wish we could be spending out time on better ways to reduce abortions...without terrorizing every generation of American women from Puberty to Menopause.
If you deny the statistics I've shown you (and I've got more), you're simply being obstinate...they represent the true 'pulse' of America...and why?...because all of those people understand that at the very least, completely innocent women (e.g. raped 10 year old girls) should not have to bear the lifetime burden of carrying a completely "Unwanted" pregnancy to term...beyond that, there are myriad ways in which women become faced with un-wanted pregnancies, and it is nigh onto impossible to adjudicate the reasons for them, especially given the short time allowed before birth.
Note...the most recent edition of the National Catholic Reporter has an editorial on the issue...in it, it has these comments...
"Yet is is a decision with a very high cost...one perhaps too high for the country, and our church, to bear. As we at NCR have long argued, making abortion illegal is not the only...or even necessarily the most effective...way to bring about a REDUCTION in the number of abortions in this country."
This is where I come from...I want real reductions in the number of abortions...while at the same time, lessening the very real and sometimes horrendous burdens they bear because of truly Unwanted Pregnancies that they...through no fault of their own...are being asked toion endure.
Let's start making those reductions happen by getting our Catholic Church to face up to the reality of Contraception, which it should have done when another overwhelming majority of prelates on the Vatican II committee voted in favor of it...only to be denied by a single, well placed Cardinal (Ottaviani).
Noting wrong with wanting to reduce the number of abortions ('zero' is unfeasible)...just don't let that objective blind you to the other innocents...who deserve to live their lives fully and freely...certainly a concept you should be able to appreciate.
Are my words not honest enough for you?...hopefully, you don't expect total acceptance of your POV.

What is your stat for "abortion should be elective for any reason at all, at any time, including while the baby is in the birth canal, and including if the baby is born alive?"
about because of an intractable condition amongst the states that precluded them from reaching common ground on abortion...leading to a SCOTUS resolution with Roe v. Wade...which stood since 1973 and through subsequent challenges....nothing substantive has changed...women still suffer from unwanted pregnancies...there is no further evidence of "personhood" at conception...different faiths still place "Personhood" at different times in the pregnancy...not just at conception, but at "Quickening", or at "First Breath"...so, rather than have one faith determine abortion rights for everyone (including atheists), Roe v. Wade did the wise thing and allowed women a recourse...if they so chose, while adding restrictions to accommodate the views of the nation's "Majority" who favored abortion rights, but with some conditions applied...please don't tell me the Justices didn't listen to arguments in favor of abortion...with the most recent decision, IMO they should have been mindful of nation's vast majority wishes and experience before effectively overturning Roe.
btw, I've mentioned before but will again, Prof. Laurence Tribe's book "Abortion: The Clash of Absolutes"...in it, he details the numerous state laws on abortion...how they came to be, etc...and how Roe came to be...nothing has changed...we're back to square one, but an even more egregious outcome is now possible (i.e. a national ban on abortion)...all this decision did was put the nation through more turmoil.
You keep bringing up "for any reason"...that's a fair question...but I ask you...how do you ensure judicial fairness in all cases...are you suggesting "due process" trials for every abortion request...with the biological clock ticking from conception to 21 weeks?...15 weeks?...6 weeks?...the pragmatic truth is...you can't...so, the woman's word should be final. Again, this is a very understandable concern you express...I'm not at all minimizing it...so if you want to go further in that direction, I'll give you more insight into my reasoning.
Finally, for now, as regards "Late Term" abortions, if you haven't already read this article I've previously posted from the Kaiser Family Foundation, please check it out...nothing wrong with being very concerned about that, but you need to do yourself a favor and fully understand what is actually going on.
Back to you, Ned.

Everyone knows you take the absolute unreasonable extremist position. I'm satisfied that most people find your viewpoint reprehensible. No more discussion is needed. Goodbye for now.
where alums and friends of Notre Dame can gather and discuss issues great and small...should you ever be willing to take advantage of this opportunity I'll be there...meanwhile, I'll be bringing the concerns of an overwhelming majority of Americans on this critical issue up for discussion for all to comment on.

never said it doesn't affect the lungs...just less than previous variants...yeah, it can still kill you.
We're not out of the woods...it's definitely less dangerous for those who are vaccinated...not so much for the 'Great Unvaxed' masses (more than a few million people).

yawn.....predictable that the left would push this coming up on election season....you know what will keep you safer?

they're all chronological adults, but beyond that it's a challenge to find the right words to use with them ;-).

quips to others...not that they're any better, but they're not so oxymoronic ;-).
Earaches, plugged ears, muffled hearing that continues for weeks, pain with urination, diarrhea, heavy coughing, constant sneezing as in days on end, loss of energy for long periods of time as well as all the other COVID19 symptoms. The older you are the more of an issue it will be.
If someone near you is sneezing, get as far away from them as possible.
Sadly this is not over.
So I wonder how many more years Ty is gonna keep promoting mask-wearing. He's now promoting wearing them outdoors, contrary to what is necessary (assuming one falsely believes they work in the first place).
I doubt you understand what the mask actually does.
If you can correctly explain the reasoning behind mask wearing and how they are supposed to work I won’t hassle you about why you are consistently wrong about the virus. Deal?
that keeps mutating...it's not as severe as Delta, but it's far worse than the common cold or seasonal flue...other coronaviruses. An awful lot of work is going into figuring out how we can "tweak" vaccines and also understand how to deal with "Long COVID".
btw, I'm not biting on the 'Mask Issue' ;-)...
